But I think we have to separate two things:

1. tagging-functionality (what we talked about mostly in this thread)

and

2. search-functionallity (of course has a strong relation to the tagging)

As you mentioned it would be very useful to combine more ...

Hello all,
I also very much support the concept of

A. organize keywords in a hierarchical tree
(like xnview catagories already does)

B. assign keywords per drag'n'drop to images
(just drag the relevant node to the actual selected images)

C. writing the node-names of the assigned branch into ...

I know what you mean and I think that there is no special attribute specified for a rating.

But I think a solution could be the use of the keywords field.

A rating is basically nothing more than a characteristic of the image like other keywords. I I`ve for my purpose defined the keywords "1star ...

For the best image-browser in the world I would very much appreciate if it could be possible to export the XNView-DB-Categories into the IPTC-Data of the assigned images.

Example:
If you have a category-tree like below and an image assigned to "peter shaw"

+ people
......+family ...
