Re: Folder tree very slow to load

I think Pierre tracked down the problem for anyone else having this issue.

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

xnview wrote:Could you try to rename the XnView folder located in 'Application Data'?
Has the same effect as a new install, but no effect on the delay. Are there possibly windows DLLs that xnview uses that could be affected by other software?

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

No start the browser of XnView with D:\

I actually tried starting it in C:, D:, F: (flash drive) and H: (external drive), none of them had any effect. :(

Ssettings:
Options > General > Operations tab
- Launch browser at startup (checked)
- Startup directory (last used)

Procedure:

oops66 wrote:Maybe you can also try to run XnView with the admin rights, ( Xnview seems to work better with it on Windows seven).
Do you have a difference with or without Admin rights ?
Right click > Run as Administrator didn't do anything different, still had the same delay.

I get the delay regardless of what drive or directory I start on. I can't seem to reproduce it in XnViewMP though.

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

xnview wrote:Very strange, could you try XnViewMP and tell me if you have same problem?
XnViewMP 0.26.1 doesn't have that problem, and actually seems very quick. There's some slowdown when loading extremely large directories for the first time but that's somewhat expected. No freezes though!

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

Even more odd, if I have the Tree Pane turned off (View > Tree Pane > Show) then XnView starts up instantly (as it should). I can then toggle the tree pane open and it's already populated like normal (i.e. it's not just taking a long time to load while it's hidden). However, I get the long delay ...

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

You have no network drive?

Nope, no network drives. That does seem like a likely place for timeouts though.
I have 2 external drives, an empty DVD drive, a flash drive and a virtual dvd drive (I have tried disabling this to see if it is causing the delays, but no effect).
Is there any way to ...

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

Okay, I found where it keeps the files if you have it set to Options > System Integration > Save options > *as INI in folder - XnView . The files are kept in:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\XnView
This webpage explains why (if you're curious): http://zone.ni.com/devzone ...

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

FI: Maybe you have deleted (renamed) these files but in a wrong folder (not the active one for xnview) , maybe ?
(xnview.ini, xnview.db & category.db)

Hmm. I renamed all the files in the C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\XnView directory.

My Xnview options are currently:
Options > System ...

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

I opened it at the root of C: which has no images, but regardless of which folder it starts I have the same issue (also tried various other folders, including completely empty ones). I took some screenshots, perhaps they will help? The first screenshot is when it is loading the folder tree. The ...

Okay, tried renaming all of those files but it didn't seem to have any effect. Also Xnview has not recreated any of those files either after they were renamed.

Re: Folder tree very slow to load

If you start XnView in browser mode, you have such freeze?

Yeah, it freezes if I start it in browse mode, and if I start it in view mode and switch to browse the first time.

@XnTriq: I'll try and see if there's some sort of HTML file somewhere hanging it up, it happens very consistently and ...
