It was 1.96.
In 1.96, there was a problem, comment can be removed
How sure are you that the problem has been fixed?

Before I use XnView again, I want to back up my descriptions. What is the best way to do this?

Problem with editing Descriptions

Today I did a search (control-F) to find all the pictures in a directory tree with "fav" in the description. XnView found just under 8,000 files. I browsed through the files and edited the description of some of them to add more information. After a while, I noticed that XnView was erasing the old ...

Re: Problem with Search function (Ctrl-F)

I have thought of something that might be relevant. The directory tree that I was searching has 38,012,673,137 bytes in 195,933 files and 1,337 directories. More than 99% of these files are pictures. The large number of files might be causing a buffer to overflow.
I tried it in a directory with ...

Re: Problem with Search function (Ctrl-F)

Strange, i have not this problem. If you don't enter a description, same problem?
I do not have the problem without the description. With the description, XnView ignores both the date and size restrictions. I have tried three different descriptions. I get the same results with all of them.

Have ...

Problem with Search function (Ctrl-F)

Today I tried to use XnView version 1.96 to search for image files with "fav" in the description, a file size of less than 40 K and a date before 1/1/2004. I got MANY more results than I expected.

I checked the results and they had ALL file sizes and ALL dates. I tried it again and got the same ...

I apologize for taking so long to respond. I have been more ill than usual.

Yes I received it and it is MUCH faster than the other version. I think it is about ten times as fast.

Do you want me to time it exactly?

Re: Copy speed

Your files are all in the same folder?
Could you try to copy but rename the descript.ion file before?
The files are in several different folders. That is why I used the Search function.

Is it safe to rename descript.ion files. I suppose I could rename all the description files but there are more ...

Re: Copy speed

The largest descript.ion files I have now is 187 K but it was probably at least 40 K smaller when I copied the files.

Your DB cache is big? Do you have description?

I do not know what you mean by DB cache. All the files have descriptions.
Option/Thumbnail/Cache
And description from descript.ion file?

I did have the Option/Thumbnail/Cache turned on. There are four cache files. The largest one is 3,390,523 ...

Copy speed

I used the search function in XnView to find all the images that had a string in the description. It found about 7,500 files. I selected all the files and told XnView to copy all of them to a directory on a different logical drive.

XnView did this VERY, VERY, VERY slowly. It took about one second ...

Re: File already exists: skip all

A new button to 'skip all' files would make updating another directory faster when you don't actually want to examine each matching image.
I fully agree. But I think we need also Replace all and Rename all.

So I suggest this option:

[x] Apply to all files [Replace] [Rename] [Skip] [Cancel]

Changing the order of columns in browser mode

Right now the columns in my browser window are: Name, Size, Date, Description. Can I change them to: Name, Description, Size, Date?
