It would be great with an option to crop with a fixed size, so the picture will keep the ratio between width and height.

Close button moved to the tab when showing one picture
May I propose that the close button is moved to the tab, when you have opened one picture. I makes more sense to do as for instance Firefox does.

Autolevels
I just used autolevels and compared it to the autolevels from GIMP 2.4.5. They do not match. The images gets a bit lighter and gets a bit more contrast when using GIMP. How is it decided how to do the autolevels? And is autolevel lossless on jpg files?

IMHO, I think a program should be easy to use for a beginner. I think the smartest default will be to save it. The fact that you have an opinion whether to save in the file or in a db, says to me, that you know more than most users. Therefore, you should off course have the option to do as you pleas...
