Problem solved. It was a strange interaction with McAfee Enterprise Antivirus.

'Configuration' window opens on every program start
I've got a 1.93.6 XnView. Every time i start the program, the "Configuration" window appears. No matter which options i choose, it happens again and again. OS Windows XP SP2, i have admin rights of course.
