any mp4?


Any video file in my collection, in fact. This .mkv as well, for instance. Repro steps:

1. Browse to the directory containing the file
2. Click the file
3. Press F2 to rename it
4. Press Esc
5. Navigate away (arrows, clicking on another file or menu item etc.) -> XnViewMP becomes non ...

it seems to be a one-way issue dragging files between XnViewMP and a file manager such as Nemo.

I can still reproduce the freeze on Ubuntu 24.04 with KDE 6 Wayland, when dragging a file onto a directory within XNView MP .

The AppImage also crashes when attempting to play MP4 files, but that's ...

Hm, just picking and touching files should not crash any app. So no cure to this on the horizon?


It would be really nice (cough, normal) if clicking MP4 fles didn't crash XnViewMP.

How about a stopgap measure to just do nothing when selecting an MP4 file?

When opening files from MP (Ctrl+O), I want to see their size. To do this, I need to enlarge the File Open dialog. Unfortunately the size of this dialog is not remembered, so every time I want to see file details, I need to resize that window again.

KDE on Ubuntu.

v1.9.4 crashing as well on Ubuntu 25.04, KDE Plasma 6.3.4, Wayland.

v1.9.4 still crashes. Now on Ubuntu 25.04, KDE 6, Wayland.

Ubuntu 25.04, XnViewMP 1.9.3, KDE 6 Wayland. I can reliably reproduce the freeze when:

- dragging a subfolder onto another place in the tree
- dragging a group of files into a folder

Did you test other video player programs? Did they work correctly?


Yes, I can see the drone videos with VLC or SMPlayer.

I've had ffmpeg installed for a long while but I've just double-checked:

$ sudo dnf install ffmpeg

I still see this problem in v1.8.3 with any JPGs I've tried from my smartphones.

exiftool doesn't report any problems, but after going to to Metadata -> Change timestamp and entering a specific timestamp and checking all 6 checkboxes, the timestamps remain unchanged:

When attempting to open MP4 files created by the DJI Mini 4 Pro, XnViewMP 1.7.2 64-bit crashes.

I couldn't attach even the smallest file here due to size limitations, so I've uploaded it to Filebin.

Note that the Tools menu only has "Change timestamp" in the gallery view, not when you open an individual image.

It would be useful to add that option when viewing an individual image as well.

I know this is an old topic, but it's the one that shows up at the top of Google search results.

I used Shift+click to select multiple items, but the background of the thumbnails doesn't change in any way. I can't easily see which images I've selected. The only indication is in the status bar ...

Another vote for updating the changelog at https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/#downloads with the changes from https://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=41263&p=166596.

Maybe it would be easiest to just link to that post, until there's time to log only the most important changes.
