Re: Full support for zip and rar files

Actually to be precise, I'm still stuck on a old version of ACDSee since it's gotten so bloated. I would really like to move to XnView, if it would just get full archive support.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

As invisifan said tarballs are legit ways to store groups. Zip and rar are legit ways to DISTRIBUTE groups of files, it is NOT best practice to STORE them as Zip and rar. As with everything, there will be someone with some reason to do it, but do you want to be the jack of all trades bloatware? It'...

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

Among others, I have hundreds of comics in zip or rar format as originally distributed by the businesses selling them that say it's a fairly common way to store groups of images.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

You can argue all you want about how people are "supposed" to use file formats, but if you look at the entire INDUSTRIES such as comic books that use archive files, not tarballs, as the standard format, you see that this is a critical feature for many users. The tarball format, in general,...

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

I continue to be unable to use XnView as my main software tool due to the lack of this critical feature. There is a much more active discussion of this under the MP suggestions.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

As previously stated, zip and rar ( sometimes under the extensions cbz and cbr, but the actual format isn't different) are the most common means of distributing large sets of image files such as comics, scanned documents, and large sets of photographs. Support for viewing these files as if they were...

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

I have XnView installed alongside ACDSEE and I use it for everything else because it is just better. But I still can't get rid of ACDSEE without this feature integrated into XnView.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

Have you ever heard of USENET (aka, "News Groups" [Not google groups])? 99% of images are distributed via USENET are held in a compressed-file container. Whether or not any actual compression occurred is not relevant. Compression programs can store the files without compression, which mig...

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

First of all, as was pointed out, this is the standard format for distributing digital comics, so saying no one uses it is grossly inaccurate. Also as was pointed out, the reason for this is not size, it is convenience. Instead of keeping tack of 100 individual image files, you keep track of a singl...

Re: Full support for zip and rar files

I continue to be unable to use XN View because this functionality is missing. I have hundreds, if not thousands, of files that I go through in the average year, as well as huge numbers of saved files, that simply cannot be worked with using XN View because they are large numbers of images and scanne...
