I got a reply from Pierre, he thinks this was an issue with Version 1.96, which we use. I'll test the new version as soon as possible. Until then this issue is marked solved.

Johannes

Re: Writing IPTC creates files with "._filename.jpg"
Hi pierre,
I'll try to find one I can send. How should I send it? To whom should I send it?
I noticed that I made a mistake in my OP, the filename of the sidecar is ._01_filename.jpg, I did not notice the extra _01_ at first, as our files are named beginning with 000_...

With some of the pictures, yes. Other pictures are no problem.

[Solved] Writing IPTC creates files with "._01_filename.jpg"
Hi everyone,
I found no reason why, but sometimes Xnview creates small files, when IPTC-metadata is written into jpg files, one for each file. The newly created files are small, 1KB, contain only two characters (when viewed in a text editor) and are called ._01_filename.jpg (filename.jpg is the ...

Re: [1.96] Batch processing: Problems with using/saving scripts
Thanks Xntriq,
I'll have a look.
One thing I come across with loading the JPEG settings from the script. Altough the script contains a line with
output( jpeg 80 0 0 0 0 0 1 ) some settings are not changed when loading the script.
I tested this, and manually unchecked all checkboxes in "Tools ...

Re: [1.96] Wrong display of DPI in "Thumbnails&Details"
Then why does Xnview display DPI Info, if there is none in the JPEG header (and the option mentioned above is not set)? If there is none, display none. Do not display the wrong value.

Re: [1.96] Wrong display of DPI in "Thumbnails&Details"
No, I did not. Now it displays the correct values.
But why does Xnview display wrong values when no DPI is "set" and this option is not checked, and why the strange value in the properties (Pixel per Inch: ??? x ???)?

Re: [1.96] Batch processing: Problems with using/saving scripts
It is no problem to manually delete the line with the output folder in the script. So its not that big an issue.
Still it would be nice if things like that could be configured. Let the user decide. But as you hinted, this is stuff for long long discussions.

[1.96] Options when changing size via Batch Processing
Hello everyone,
I stumbled upon another change between version 1.80 (which we had before) and 1.96. When processing more than one file via "Batch Processing" there are several options for changing the size ("Resize") of an image:
In the old version one would put "1200" in both width and height ...

[1.96] Batch processing: Problems with using/saving scripts
Good Morning,
when converting several pictures at once, the "Batch Processing" in Xnview is a killer. But after upgrading from 1.80 (2005?) to the latest one (1.96), two issues appeared:

[1.96] Wrong display of DPI in "Thumbnails&Details"
Good Morning,
sorry if this one has been reported, I found nothing in the board.
When displaying pictures in "Thumbnails&Details"-Mode, I get some image properties in the second column. Included is something like "72 x 72 DPI". Which seems to appear with all pictures I looked at, no matter what ...
