Hi, what do you think about checking "Show Desktop in folder tree" by default?
I think it is note very useful to hide the desktop for new user who don't know about this option.

I suggest to introduce the main menu "Create" in View mode, too.
Very good suggestion.
Perhaps even clearer and easier: Show exactly the same menu structure in both modes and just disable the entries that are not available in the respective mode.

For 'Thumbnail view' , the debate is still open between:
- Helmut's suggestion with separate columns for 'Item in Thumbnails view' and 'Show as Thumbnail' in order to get 'Thumbnails view' and 'Other views' closer.

Handling file associations under Windows is very annoying. Almost every version since Windows 95 changed the way to do it a little bit. But it got even more confusing. Sometimes the easiest way is to edit the registry directly. But as always you should be very careful when editing the registry:

What does this option do:
Tools -> Options -> Intall -> Add XnView as application for USB events?
When I plug in my camera or my card-reader, windows shows a dialog, where I can select an application to be started. But XnView doesn't appear in this dialog, even when above option is checked.
