Just wanted to shift the post back onto the fullscreen browser idea. Anyone have any comments on this?

Ok I have had a go at this. I have a partial solution. I have copied xnview to my removable disc on which I keep pictures (the laptop HD space is at a premium) and set this version up to use a cache in the xnview directory. For xnview without the extHD I use the normal installation.

1) You can put it on a cd with your pictures and run it from there, no installation needed.

This is possible win XnView if you download the .zip-Version. I do this with all my foto CDs that I give to friends. You can even save the slideshows and put them to the autorun.inf.

Ok, so the two don't compare. xnview is by far the best viewer I have found. It is much more customisable and has bags more functionality. I don't know how I managed before I found xnview

(but with xnview quality thumbnails)
This way the cached thumbnails would be available on every machine that the CD was put into!

Well I am looking to be able to populate the cache with my quarter million images. I want to start it and forget it!

I have experienced a bug with 1.80.3. If I have a directory named "something" and I rename another directory "nameless" to "something" by mistake then instead of notifying me XNview puts "nameless" inside "something". Very odd!

Worse if I rename "something" to "Something" then it puts it inside ...

I like the shadow and I think it looks neater that the frame is over the picture rather than around it. To me this isn't obtrusive

The toolbar is great, I love the ability to customise it.....

Just been doing some research and I notice that JPegger works in exactly the way I suggested above. Shame really that the program isn't as nice to use as XNview.

How about an item in the tools menu to 'add a tree' to the thumbnail cache rather than only doing so when each directory is first entered?
