Re: Save images in indexed 8-bit PNG format
Thank you all for the replies!
I shall probably try one of those programs, and thanks for the File -> Export option! I didn't know about it, it looks good for testing with different parameters. And Adaptive mode was the one I thought ugly (I wander why it is the default one used by "Convert to ...

Re: Save images in indexed 8-bit PNG format
Hmm… Yes, it's exactly what I asked for and almost what I wanted. :) Thanks for the reply! Although having used Adobe Photoshop much, it's not easily found that I must to this in order to get PNG-8.
Why I said "almost what I wanted" is that Adobe Photoshop still beats XnView regarding the PNG file ...

Re: Let use jpeg loseless rotate every time it is possible
I agree with zencd's and JohnFredC's suggestion.
The rotation icons are still not the same as the "JPEG lossless transformation" => Rotate (a toolbar icon I discovered today :)), and I get the notification about 8-multiple trimming even for images with the proper dimensions that would need no ...

Re: jpg output: What does subsampling, DCT, ... do?
Thank you for the explanations! I was wandering about these same options today (and also about the Huffman table's optimization). I suggest these are added to XnView's User guide (Info -> Help).
I've been using the progressiveness purely based on the resulting file size. In addition, if you choose ...

Re: More explanations for simple users
Thanks for the link and the explanation! Drahken's explanations are very useful too. I would really suggest to add those to XnView's help file / User guide.
So, about the Huffman table's optimization. Why is it disabled by default? Are there any drawbacks when it is enabled?

More explanations for simple users
Hello!
I would like to suggest adding more practical explanations for the image saving options. I guess there are a few computer scientists who understand what a Huffman table is and why it should or should not be optimized or what does it mean for a DCT method to be slower or faster. But the rest ...

"Keep XMP" does not get saved
If I save a batch processing script with "Keep XMP" checked for the JPEG quality, it does not get saved along with the other options. After I load the script next time the checkbox is empty again.

Re: Options->Read/Write->JPG: Use estimated Quality
I had the same problem understanding this option. I would suggest to add word "original" there: "Use estimated original quality if possible" or "Use estimated quality of the original if possible". Or add it as a tooltip if it's too long. Or at least add the explanation to the user's guide (F1).

Re: Save JPG At 'Original' Quality
Hi!
I know that this feature already exists in XnView. However, I'm not sure why one would like to save an image in its original "quality". What benefit does that give?
As I understand it, resaving a JPG image will result in quality loss every time you do it, so even with 100% "quality" you won't ...
