Re: we should be able to post without having it have to be approved by a moderator

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but despite the usual countermeasures, we were being flooded with spam.

BTW: Your posts were approved in less than 2 minutes ;-)

Re: On Spam

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, bdragon!

All notifications are sent as plain text (Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8). Unfortunately, most mail clients and webmail services automatically create a hyperlink from URLs and email addresses. As far as I know, there's no word censoring for topic titles in phpBB :-|

On Spam

I've got several emails in the past from this forum with spammers trying to sell stuff by putting a message with a "nice" url for subject.

That's normal.

What is not normal is that the email warning about a new topic takes the subject of the new message (which is, as i said, an url) and transforms it into a clickable link. Could it be left as just text? Thank you.

Yes. No mails in spam.

Re: Missing notifications

I'm assuming you did get a topic reply notification for my previous post. Could you please give me an example for a topic where this doesn't work?
Also: Is Notify me upon replies by default (User Control Panel » Board preferences » Edit posting defaults) activated? Did you check your spam folder for missing notifications?
XnTriq (27/Mar/2013) wrote:I just checked the spam folder of my Gmail account and found all missing topic reply notifications (one week's worth) there.
These e-mails were sent from the same address to the same address for the past seven years, and all over sudden Gmail decides they're spam? That's odd :?
XnTriq (28/Mar/2013) wrote:I've got another e-mail from **** today. His notifications also turned out to be eaten by an overzealous spam filter.
Again, I don't know what to make of this, but it has to be related to the new server. (Perhaps the sender IP has changed.)

So, if other members start complaining, we can tell them to put newsgroup[ät]xnview[döt]com on their whitelist.

OK, now I know for sure. I did not get the majority of notifications for the “***** ********” topic.
What's more: The ones I received sometimes did not arrive in chronological order.

I think we should — at least temporarily — change this setting to see if that fixes the problem:
Administration Control Panel » General » Client communication » E-mail settings » E-mail package size wrote:This is the number of maximum e-mails sent out in one package. I don't see any problems in the Error log (Administration Control Panel » Maintenance » Forum logs), Pierre.
The E-mail settings (General » Client communication) also seem to be correct.

'Tis the season for spam campaigns :-\
I assume you're referring to the Shell Extension sticky. Bots often post to the first topic in the forum or sub-forum with the highest post count.

Quickly, the spammers spotted it, then continued to put their craps anywhere in all sections… :|
- The strong point in the TC forum is that any Mod may lock the fake accounts. The weak point is that a Mod can only delete the craps in the sections where he has rights; i.e., I've rights in almost all sections, except in the “User to User” sections (in extra languages like Spanish etc.)
- The Mods of those sections aren't always connected, this leads to keep the craps for some hours… days !
- Here, we miss a “Cleaner” member, especially in charge of the craps deleting… XnTriq-friend does this the most he can, but indeed he can't 24H / 24 !

Re: I Don't receive warning mail from the forum

Gérard 91 wrote:Strange and boring no ?
Yes, this is indeed frustrating for both of us :|

Please follow these steps if you're not receiving notification e-mails:
  1. Check the spam/junk folders of both your e-mail client and your webmail account for false positives.
  2. Add newsgroup{ät}xnview{döt}com & contact{ät}xnview{döt}com to the whitelists of both your e-mail client and your webmail account.
Note: I assume you already know this, Gérard, but I'd like to explain it for inexperienced users who're facing the same issues with missing topic reply notifications.

Re: I Don't receive warning mail from the forum

Thanks XnTriq to look at.
I did keep an eye on my spam before erase but I'll add newsgroup@ and Image to my whitelist.
But if every thing seems to be in order, I still have problem.
I subscribe to MP forum :
- MP - General Support
- Bug Reports
- MP - Suggestions
To day I received only 2 mails (one for the subject of this post and one for Pierre's answer for the other subject I mentioned yesterday
BUT NONE for all other subjects ?????
Should I write something in each subject to be inform ? (joking)
Strange and boring no ?

Re: I Don't receive warning mail from the forum

I've checked the e-mail settings of the forum yesterday: Everything's correct :?

Is topic #29757 (“Fails to start XnView MP 0.64”) listed in User Control Panel » Overview » Manage subscriptions?

p119278.gif (3.28 KiB) Viewed 5185 times
Please check your spam or junk e-mail folder to make sure it didn't end up there by accident.
You may also want to consider adding newsgroup@ and Image to your whitelist.

It ain't worth the trouble.
Irving, you should've gotten a notification e-mail asking you to reactivate your account.

How to change/update the e-mail address of your forum account:
  1. Go to User Control Panel » Profile » Edit account settings.
  2. Enter your new E-mail address.
  3. Confirm e-mail address.
(You only need to specify this if you are changing your e-mail address.)
  4. Enter your Current password.
(You must confirm your current password if you wish to change it, alter your e-mail address or username.)
  5. After clicking on Submit, you'll be logged out automatically and presented with the following message:
newsgroup.xnview.com wrote:Your account has been updated. However, this board requires account reactivation on e-mail changes. An activation key has been sent to the new e-mail address you provided. Please check your e-mail for further information.
  6. The reactivation e-mail will be sent to the new address and reads as follows:
newsgroup(at)xnview(dot)com (Reactivate your account) wrote:Hello Irving,

Your account on "XnView" has been deactivated, most likely due to changes made to your profile. In order to reactivate your account you must click on the link below:

    http://newsgroup.xnview.com/ucp.php?mod ... XXXXXXXXXX

    --
    Thanks, The XnView Forum Team
  7. When you visit the link provided in this e-mail, you'll get the following message:
newsgroup.xnview.com wrote:Your account has now been successfully reactivated.
  8. You should then be able to log in to the forum as usual.
Frequently Asked Questions (I registered but cannot login!) wrote:First, check your username and password. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. I just looked at TC forum. The spam trap topic there looks clever too. Post on that and delete more than topic. Like an electric bug zapper. :)
