I've downgraded Ghostscript to version 9.56.1 and the behavior is different.
The white area is gone but also the top and right border.

Or would I have to separate all the jpgs, tiffs, etc, from each other before I do a batch? Or does anyone ...

Re: 1.9.2: pdf files with zero dimensions and no thumbnail
Your test file opens normally in XnView MP 1.9.1 and 1.9.2 with Ghostscript 9.50 installed, so probably a Ghostscript version issue, there have been recent posts somewhere that are likely relevant. Tested in Linux Mint DEB versions.

Re: Book Mode (for viewing comic/magazine scans)
“Book View” and the (related) “Facing” view modes are today available in, essentially, every PDF browser. Lots of PDF documents are nothing more than wrappers containing collections of images of scanned documents. Taking into account widespread availability of scanned printed material in the form of ...

Maybe you could if necessary post screenshots of your settings for Pierre?
You can at least print from Linux Mint, a number of users have fairly recently reported only being able to print to file (PDF).

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
Thank you for the clearer images, I repeat my questions...
1. Are you scanning from within XnView MP? [Using the TWAIN interface]
2. Which file format is the saved scan? Possibly PDF?
Maybe you can also attach an example scan output file?

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
... good day.
I attach two more images.
I highlighted the two boxes where, in the first, the Xnview one, the acquisition value is indicated: 300 dpi (the scan was done as a photo and not as a pdf) and in the second box, the Photoshop one, the dpi value is indicated: 72.
I don't understand why this change.

Your images cannot be viewed as the resolution is too low, but:
1. Are you scanning from within XnView MP?
2. Which file format is the saved scan? Possibly PDF?
