Thank you, it turns out that the problem affects not only JXL. But in the case of JXL, the problem is a little more serious. If you rename a GIF to PNG, XnViewMP will display it like any normal GIF. But in the case of JXL, the program refuses to display it at all or simply ignores it.

Minor thing - if you open a PDF you get a popup to install ghostscript - the link to the wiki on it doesn't work.
I attached a PNG screenshot but it doesn't seem to attach on submission.

Edit > Background Color > Choose white as the color that is visible after only a part of a picture is deleted.
But for .png files, selection of background color has no effect. Gray remains the color for the part of the picture that gets deleted for .png files.
