You can override the folder icons. Place the icons in these destination paths.

Path for SMALL folder:
~/.icons/hicolor/64x64/places/folder.png
Path for LARGE folder:
~/.icons/hicolor/192x192/places/folder.png

The specific issue of writing geolocation data in the metadata of a jxl file has been solved in 1.9. Thanks.
Remains the issue of removing metadata using "clean" in the browser mode. It works for jpg files but does not work for jxl, png and tif files (and may be some other formats I did not test)
