1. goto 'Camera RAW' tab in Settings>Formats>Read
2. change View from 'Embedded preview' to Half or Full size
3. play with Full/Half size rendering adjustments

Could that possibly be a sort order settings issue: in the browser, View >Sort by with multiple display sub order options available... ?
