Re: Image preview issue
Good catch! FWIW users on the XnView forums got help from the official dev asking for a sample file so they can see exactly why the thumbnails/preview aren’t showing, and one suggestion was to check Settings → General → show all graphic formats first.

Re: How to stop thumbnails from constantly refreshing
Somethings's not right. Suggest you delete your settings and start with a fresh copy of the app, or post screenshots of your settings.

Re: How to stop thumbnails from constantly refreshing
I changed my settings to the ones you specified and waited for the program to refresh all the thumbnails. Sadly, it didn't fix the problem, when I opened a folder inside the directory then went back out, all the thumbnails were blank again. But they are refreshing faster, so that's a plus.

How to stop thumbnails from constantly refreshing
... s annoying that if I wait for all the thumbnails to refresh, then go into one of the folders and back out, they all have to refresh again.
I've looked at all the settings but I can't find where to disable this auto refreshing, if there is a way.
If anyone knows the answer, I'd be eternally grateful!

Re: Clarify the "auto image size" settings
I don't see any problems with understanding the auto-zoom options, naming is perfect.
Besides, if you're not sure, testing them will take less than a minute.
My personnal setup (and I believe this should be the default) would be:

... when I need it. I've been able to link to the raw editor in XnView MP so that should work well.
BTW I back up files nightly, so I might try restoring the files you mentioned. I'll also put a copy of them in a separate place, as you've suggested. After that I'll see what settings work best for me.

Re: Gray field in image
... You say "it is not in the scan" but evidently Finereader thinks it is; probably Finereader is showing you an image with different contrast settings, or perhaps a 16-bit image that when it converts it to 8-bit for jpeg it's compressing the tones and this pale grey area becomes visible. Assuming ...

Re: XnConvert not remembering output settings on Mac
It's a Mac Mini M4 so I assume that's Intel.
I downloaded the latest 1.106.0 DMG straight from the site and that seems to be saving the options on a restart.
