Settings->View->Show Navigator. Then if you drag in the Navigator inset window, you'll be moving the viewport in the way you prefer.
Not the same, but I thought it might help.

... Although this is not a bug, pointing out an obvious problem (inconvenience) is, in my opinion, more appropriate for the “bugs” section than for the “suggestion” section.
As for your description of where and what to add in the settings, it is beyond praise, everything is very detailed and clear.

Re: 1.9.3: Problem with selecting in the Browser.
it's not a problem, but suggestion
it could be done like this:
add checkbox to alter Ctrl + A behavior , disabled by default (in Settings>File operations)
eg 'Enable files/folders separate selection (Ctrl+A)'
so it can be switched between
current behaviour
multiple press
- select all files ...

But when opening images from the XnViewMP browser tab, it would be horrible if the window kept resizing itself; the window size needs to be maintained. Here, it needs to obey "Fit Image to Window".
We need two Auto Zoom settings!

... but not folders, when selecting with CTRL+A . This is already implemented in other viewers, such as ACDSee.
As a compromise, a separate option could be added to the Settings in the Browser section, with the ability to choose what to select when pressing CTRL+A: only files, or files and folders.

1.9.3: Manually assigned icons are not visible on the toolbar.
I manually assigned my icons to some commands on the toolbar, and they became visible in the Settings. But they did not appear on the toolbar itself - there is still only text there. Windows 11.

Many thanks for you reply - could not find Settings/Integration/File associations from root/xnview on Ubuntu (only get Paths).
