he seems to add examples ... some are really convincing now

converting doc to jpg
You can't really convert DOC (document, similar applies to DOCX, PDF, ODF, CHM, ...). to JPG (bitmap).
What one could do, is:
1. Create a BITMAP from every page of a document (or one long bitmap of all pages). But it would be a very difficult task. Why? DOC and Co are very ...

Re: WebP support
I think webp is a bad idea. There are already several JPG replacement formats floating around (jpeg 2000, hdphoto/jpeg-xr for example), and none are getting very widespread support yet (jp2k's the best supported, but it's been around for many years now & seems likely to die a quiet death).

Re: animation problems
To be more verbose, for all 3 examples given, in XN 1.97.7 the APNG animation runs but looks very messy ( http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441971 fine in Firefox 4.0b5)

Re: merge many images.
There is AFAIK no such feature in NCONVERT (as of 5.75), and I miss it too (besides 8 bppc -> 16 bppc upgrade).Seeker wrote:I want to merge many images, but I can't find that command.

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
forgot to make specific rules about what kind of information is forbidden in third-party chunks. Without such rules, I could embed mp3

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
APNG is NOT PNG. It also breaks the PNG spec No it's not. PNG specs allows third-party chunks extensions. If a third-party follows those chunk-naming rules, you cannot accuse them of breaking anything.

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
we really shouldn't support people who break formats.
Right. If they want a new format, they should:
1. Make sure that it's sufficiently superior to existing formats, otherwise there is no point to invent it (similar applies to other "new" stuff like video codecs)
2. Give it a new name ...

Theora has had HD support (up to 1'048'576 pixels per dimension) for years and nobody noticed, so this "news" is and never was newOlivier_G wrote:I think the world/market/manufacturers has already chosen.DOS386 wrote:Does the world really need one more proprietary videoformatcodec ?
