Ok, thanks.
Do you know if there's any other freeware or trialware that can access the whole picture?

Microsoft Image Composer (.mic) images

The docs say that XnView can read (not write) the "Microsoft Image Composer"-format .mic
I have a couple of old images that came with an ancient Frontpage version. When I browse them in XnView I have several problems:

a) they are filtered when "View > Filter by" is set to "Images" so they are not ...

1.93.4: Shell extension - convert output folder broken

In the "Convert..." dialog of the Shell extension I set the output to a specific folder (that already exists, btw). But each image I convert this way is written to the same folder as the original image.

Ah, I tested some more and found this to be a feature :-)

In Options > General > Read/Write > Write > JPEG there's an option for
[ ] Keep IPTC-Data
which wasn't checked. Once checked everything worked fine again. Sorry for the alert.

So you can add new IPTC-data without ever touching the "Write"-Button, just with the "Apply"-button?
I tested on another system with the same result (doesn't work).

IPTC-Data not saved

Using XnView v1.91.4, when I add some IPTC-data to an image and click the "Write" button, the IPTC-data is immediately stored in the image.

But when I click "Apply" in this IPTC-dialog the data is remembered (as I can see in the IPTC-information box afterwards) and the image gets marked as changed ...

Sorry for not at first describing what I finally did to resolve the problem.

Here's how to extract a jpeg (repeat for each stored jpeg inside the exe):
1) Check a regular jpeg with a Hex-Editor for some characters at the start and at the end that are the same in each file assuming they describe how ...

Extracting original images from a slideshow exe-file?

Hi,

I made a slide show and created an exe file from that with XnView.
Due to some ID 10-T -problem I deleted those images but still have the exe.

Apart from clicking through the exe, making screenshots, and cropping them afterwards: is there a way to get the original images out of the exe file?

Couldn't find anything in the helpfile: I know that EXIF symbol, but what does the other symbol mean?

What other shell extension?

Maybe I wrote somhow unclear; what I meant was that this could be a way the XnView shell extension could handle different quality settings. The way to do this came solely from my confused brain http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/konfus/c070.gif not from another shell ...

Like 4 fixed settings to choose from?
Yes I'd like that, but then again: which four to choose? There might be people who'd like 98/90/80/70 while others would prefer 90/75/60/40 or such.
How about a simple config-textfile where we can put our own values?

Like this:
jpegquality1=98
jpegquality2=90 ...

You mean configuring in Options > Write > JPEG > Quality?
For testing I set that to 6 which produces a lousy image. The setting is rememberd between XnView sessions but the shellextension's conversion still produces a way better image (about 80).
