Re: Should I use nConvert or XnConvert?
Glad that effectively destroying the mark crops isn't an issue! I was slightly concerned that if your real world scans were noisy the size of the blank images would be increased significantly too, but presumably the 75:1 ratio you are obtaining is the file size ratio for 'real world mark : real worl...

Re: Should I use nConvert or XnConvert?
There is another possible approach to the problem which -- if it is practical -- would be a direct and elegant solution: to measure the ‘blackness’ of the images. If a suitable blackness measurement utility can be created using GFL SDK, or the utility mentioned by Peter2 in his thread last year is ...

Re: Strip of Images for multi-language support
XnView doesn't support Unicode... XnViewMP and XnConvert -- both under development -- are cross-platform with Unicode support and so can be used if they have the functions you need. See the previous post in this section: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=27967 It's not a bug but techn...

Re: Should I use nConvert or XnConvert?
Some more thoughts on the file size ratio issue before moving on: The requirement is unusual and in the absence of relevant past experience or some insight the only solution would seem to be to test a variety of possible formats and compression methods until a satisfactory solution is found. There a...

Re: Should I use nConvert or XnConvert?
When saving scans the optimum choice of output format and compression method can do much to reduce the file size, important for a scan of a 100-page or more document for example, but optimising the ratio between the file sizes of blank and marked images is an unusual requirement. Different file form...

I miss the "9-boxes-and-one-dot" to set the position. It is easier to use. It is more intuitive and slightly quicker to use, if it could be provided easily. If I *uncheck* the "Keep Ratio", the next time I open the Canvas Resize dialogue (in the same session), I hope it is still unchecked. Currentl...

Re: Low default resolution for EPS/PS/AI/PDF
Higher resolution might prevent new users being confused by the likely low quality and thinking that the function is useless.
The 72 dpi value is the Ghostscript default, apparently, but a higher value like 300 dpi would seem better for general use.

Re: Should I use nConvert or XnConvert?
The following may help to define the process you wish to implement: Do the PDF files to be processed contain bitmap images? PDF is a very versatile format and a file can contain bitmap images (as from a camera or scanner), vector graphics (a form of drawing or illustration) and of course text that c...

Re: How to get it to work!
You want to run the command line utility nconvert which is in your C:\Program Files\Xnview folder? I have that folder in my Path environment variable and C:\nconvert -help doesn't work for me either! But C:\notepad does open the Notepad application... Maybe someone more experienced can explain that?...

Re: Recommended File-Rename-Tools?
There are many freeware renaming tools with quite varied functions and interfaces, as the above posts show. Ant Renamer mentioned in lian's post is a stand-alone exe that might be worth looking at (the rename preview is rather inconspicuous at lower left). Another standalone exe utility not mentione...

Re: How to get it to work!
Probably the least intimidating way to add a program to the Windows Path environment variable is with the excellent Redfern Path Editor. NConvert can then be called at the command prompt or in a batch file by simply entering nconvert. http://www.redfernplace.com/software-projects/patheditor/ In gene...

Ant Renamer can do that: http://www.antp.be/software/renamer.
No doubt some of the many other freeware renaming utilities can also do it.
