Usually I set the Auto image size to Fit image to window, large only and use the * key to zoom at 100% and the / key to go back and fit the image to window. I have noticed the same behavior (that Automatic Zoom & Pan is enabled only for left mouse button set to Move picture).
It would be nice to have Automatic Zoom & Pan as a separated option to enable/disable the automatic zoom behavior for all mouse buttons that are set to Move picture.
