XnView's Batch Rename Tools allows this.
Use ### as the enumerator instead of just one # and you will get the zero-filled three digits.

I must admit that I was not aware of XnView's search tool! Nice tool that would definately benefit from the "dimensions" feature as suggested here.

So if you had the Windows Search tool with XnView's Properties column you would be there?

How about using Windows Search to locate all the images and move or copy all of them to a single folder and use XnView properties sorting from there?

Isn't sorting images by "Properties" in XnView browse mode something close to what you are talking about?

Description is a text that XnView stores in a file called "descript.ion" in the same folder as the image is stored. Comment is a text that is stored within the image file.

So if you move an image file you might loose the description as it could be left behind. But you would not loose the comment as ...

Comment problems

Actually 2 problems:

1.
When editing an image comment (Through "Edit - Edit comment..." in view mode) there seems to be some restriction on the size of the comment. Pasting a 1 kb of text or 10 lines of text into the edit box will make it empty after a short blink where the text sometimes appears ...

Re: Light version

Are you interested by a light version of XnView, only a viewer with minimal features, and limited formats? Neither!
I think it is a good idea, but personally I don't think I would use. Would certainly recommend it to others though.

To the best of my knowledge XnView does not support scripting although it has powerful batch image conversion.
I mentioned two scripting tools that I can reccommend on another topic yesterday.

I would think that your current file is either not multiple pages or you would possibly first have to select "View - Stop Animation".

I think this is related to the fact that the default action for images in XP is "preview", but not "open".
Try to rightclick an image from Windows Explorer and select open to verify this. Then your would either have to make open the default action or associate XnView with the preview action.

Still a good idea to put on your "Good ideas for the future" list.
Where from it might eventually go to your todo list :)
