Re: Suggestion for Selection Ratio

With a hotkey to simply toggle the orientation of the selection, this would be perfect, I think. Also, there could be one menu item with a ratio which is simply the same ratio as the original image. Great additions. I still think that the "Follow image orientation" option would be interesting: when...

Suggestion for Selection Ratio

First: this feature is an excellent thing. A suggestion: instead of separating Vertical ratios/sizes and Horizontal ones, just provide one list with 3 options below: "Horizontal", "Vertical", "Follow image orientation" (and if x=y for the image, choose horizontal) . With some standards ratios, it wo...

More tests... and everything is back to normal

I copied one by one all my files from the main directory to a subdirectory to try to isolate the problem... => no problem in this directory (right number of images cached, no slow regeneration, etc...). I then deleted all the files in the main directory (it was "E:\"), and moved one by one all my fi...

Strange

I had tried 'Optimize' without any result... I then have deleted the cache for this directory to see the changes: - I switch directory and come back => all thumbnails are slowly regenerated. Normal. - In the Cache, it says: 550 images are cached... whereas there are only 62 objects (no multiple TIFF...

By switching from an empty directory to my main directory, most thumbnails are displayed immediately (JPEG/TIFF without IPTC) except those: I can see the Thumbnails of the TIFF/JPEG with IPTC appear one by one... If I create and add IPTC fields to one JPEG that was previously correctly cached, and d...

Doublons in Thumbnails' Cache... :-(

I have just noticed that for JPEG and TIFF with IPTC data, the thumbnails are not correctly cached.
(but... THM files with IPTC are correctly cached)

.THM = JPEG v1.1 with EXIF

The .THM file is a JPEG that contains most of the information (EXIF) and goes along the main file (CRW, AVI). Most people don't know what it is, and some actually delete it (+most of the information  ). It is best (and more convenient) to actually not show the .THM file, but just use its info...

Canon RAW: Combine .CRW and .THM files

XnView can currently view+thumbnail .CRW and .THM created by Canon cameras in RAW format. It can also manage EXIF(+orientation) and IPTC for the .THM file. Is it possible to manage both files as a couple: - Show only 1 thumbnail (generated from the .THM) - Manage the EXIF (image orientation,...

Re: Memory leak when using the double-click feature

It's normal, because view is not closed. You can take a look at the menu "Window". Doh! Right! I didn't even think about it due to the "Only one view" feature... So what is better. When "Only one view" + "double click to open ..." must close all view before to return to the browser? I would...

Memory leak when using the double-click feature

Hi, I have just noticed that memory of images (current, and eventually of ahead/previous cache) is not released when going back from 'View' (normal or full screen) to browsing with the double-click feature. A :bug: ? Added: To be precise, it is never released (aka: a leak), even when viewing other i...

Update

In order to discuss further this idea and get some feedback about the next IPTC release, I joined this Discussion group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/controlledvocabulary Very interesting: - The next version, "IPTC Core v1.0" based on XMP, should be published very soon with specifications (January....

An example

I just thought of an interesting example to illustrate the advantage of such a system when adopted as an exchange protocol... Let's say that I am a working photographer dealing with Stock Agencies. I already have my own categories system. The Agency "A" has built up its own categories as well, and n...

But i don't understand why you want to have complete hierarchical path in IPTC field, if categories are stored in external DB... Your hierarchical organization can 'travel' with the file without any additional operation. And at the Destination place: - A software using the usual flat IPTC system wo...
