0.61 histogram scaling and appearance

MP v0.61, Windows 7 - x64. default browser view Axis scaling: When the histogram is in the "Info" window it seems to be locked to a fixed aspect ratio for no good reason For wide windows it pads the histogram to the right with the background colour. This means we no longer have any reference as to w...

Re: Very important: Metadata V2 for 0.70 (EXIF, XMP, IPTC et

Start a new thread and put a clear use case for this OK - will first do a new default install on another PC, in case I have messed up settings. Aha! An "edit" window. Fair with me. Sometimes is better solution and perhaps easier to implement. In fact, IIUC, you mean a 'Conflict Resolver' window and...

Re: Very important: Metadata V2 for 0.70 (EXIF, XMP, IPTC et

I am still confused by this reference to RCK as IPTC namespace - I can find no entry for Rating or colour in IPTC. Think that there are some tables in XnView's DB which will export their data according to the standards in some files. RCK is already there. Exporting to XMP/IPTC of these things is al...

Re: Very important: Metadata V2 for 0.70 (EXIF, XMP, IPTC et

Thanks for taking to time to explain... ...Because only in corner cases one will submit queries which will force the program to search in BOTH m1 and m2 (their scope is very different) and hence we will have an important speedup. Yes, I agree that my searches would fit that pattern, not needing m1 a...

.... an amateur photographer, like me, needs mainly to find pictures matching a (or several) subject . These are in IPTC/XMP ( rating, keywords, and some content of caption ... mainly what picture represents)... As another amateur photographer, I echo Gérard's comments. IPTC:Caption In my case, I t...

Re: Canon Makernotes and byte ordering

There is another possible work-around. You could change the EXIF to little-endian with ExifTool... Thanks Phil, that's useful to know. I checked a few of my older panoramas, when I wasn't trying to be so careful about what got overwritten - I had simply used PhotoME to export/import the entire exif...

Re: Canon Makernotes and byte ordering

could you send me a sample file? Yes, I have some samples reduced in size - less than 2MB total. But the directions in the "bug reporting guidelines" sticky just say send to "image". I cannot find any button for me to attach files to a post here - not sure if it is disabled in this phpBB, or my pos...

Re: Best way to use IPTC for detailed photo metadata?

I think IPTC caption and Keywords are the best available options at the moment. These can be listed as "title" and "tags" respectively in windows explorer. They are both indexed in Picasa and can be used for searches. The search on windows-7 does not seem to index them readily - I have it set to "fi...

Canon Makernotes and byte ordering

Hi, I have a situation where makernotes are not being displayed by XnView in images I manipulate with exiftool - I saw it first in v1.99.4, and it is the same in v1.99.5. background : For panoramas, I shoot raw (Canon EOS), convert to 16-bit tiff, run through Hugin, Photoshop and then finally save a...

Re: Geotagging: adding GPS data to the image EXIF contents

Why not choose a GPS devoice that records geo info to photos automatically... That solution would be OK if you were just starting, and it suited your purpose. In my case, I already have cameras and lenses for which that option is ridiculously expensive, and I already have a more capable GPS receive...

Re: Geotagging: adding GPS data to the image EXIF contents

... good summary. Suggestion: precise what tool is indeed used to set the meta data, e.g. GeoSetter is using ExifTool, and thus sometimes slow. So it could be a new column "tagger" in your table, either with "internal" or e.g. "ExifTool". Another column could be the "mapping" tool, e.g. GoogleMaps ...

Geotagging: adding GPS data to the image EXIF contents

Thanks to a couple of threads in this forum, I found some software for geotagging my images. Then with Google I found some more. In fact, I found so many that I thought it would be useful to summarise my findings as a mini-review. I have posted it here: http://web.aanet.com.au/cameron/GPS/GPS-images...
