1.8.2: Browser startup directory

Post by karnak »

XnView: MP 1.8.2 64 bit
OS: Windows 10 64bit

XnView Browser does not start in the specified directory.

To reproduce:
  • Open "Settings" dialog via menu or via default shortcut F12.
  • Go to "General > Startup > Start without file"
  • Check "Open browser"
  • Specify some path for "Directory > Specified"
  • Restart XnView
Additional note:

At startup the "Specified" radio button is grayed out until you select "None" or "Last" and then select again "Specified".

☑ Remember selected filename
is also required to reproduce 1st issue and
it also messing with 'None' option

it also selects nothing if multiple files have been selected

In this case, 'remember selected filename' must be ignored?

yes
if folder of selected file <> Last/Specified - ignore remembered selection

also, I would probably
- rework 'None' option
- add support for remembering selection of multiple files OR maybe just 1st file (or folder) in group

To recap, the current startup options are:

Start with file:
  • Viewer in tab mode
  • Viewer in fullscreen mode
  • Browser in tab mode
  • Browser in fullscreen mode
Start without file:
  • Empty tab
  • Browser at unspecified directory
  • Browser at latest directory
  • Browser at latest directory and remembering file selection
  • Browser at specified directory
  • Browser at specified directory and remembering file selection

I confirm that the issue with the startup options is fixed.

---

However, I have noticed that there is a setting that overrides the Browser startup directory:

"Settings > General > Save session on program exit = Always"

This setting overrides the Browser startup directory because it considers the Browser as part of the "session". This is redundant because you can already restore the Browser via:

"Settings > General > Startup > Start without file > Open browser > Directory > Last"

A way to solve this it's to change the behavior of "Save session on program exit" so that it only restores files opened in tabs.

Anyway, given the current behavior I think that "Save session on program exit" could be moved to "Settings > General > Startup".

I have tried to rework the startup settings:

Note that when the "Restore Browser directory" is checked the "Browser startup directory" should turn grey/disabled.
