Crash when creating thumbnail for certain video files

Post by JimDossan »

Hello!

When creating the thumbnails for certain files, either by opening the folder or by adding it in Settings->Browser->Catalog, XnView crashes.

I narrowed the files down to some, heres the MediaInfo of two of them:

I can't find anything special with the files in question. The thumbnails are generated fine in windows explorer and the files are playable in MPC-HC.
The problematic files I've found so far are all .mp4, but excluding these files the thumbnail generation for .mp4 works fine in general.
If someone has a hunch that one of the characteristics above is problematic, I'll check whether one of the functioning (thumbnail-wise) files I have has the same characteristic to falsify.

I'm on XnView MP Windows - Version 0.98.0 64bits (Dec 14 2020) - Libformat version 7.64 and K-Lite Codec Pack 15.9.5 Mega.

Has anyone an idea why this might be? Is there a crashlog somewhere I could look into? Thanks in advance!

Wow, thanks a lot for your reply, great to hear theres a fix en route!

I naturally searched for my problem first, using the terms "thumbnail" and "crash". I assumed the search to be AND and it told me 'ignored: thumbnail' after searching, so I thought no topic with both keywoards existed. Even after using the advanced search and +thumbnail it showed me the same 3504 results which only seemed to contain "crash".
After looking again now, the second page showed me relevant results with "thumb" or "thumbnailing" in the title, and some pages later even your post you just referenced. Sorry for repeating a known issue!

Can confirm on a small-ish (~130GB) subset of files, on which the problem occured in 98.0, that no crash is happening in 98.1 anymore!
I have some other sets that let to a crash in 98.0 as well that I'll test soon; I'm confident that the issue is resolved, but if the other sets make problems I'll report again.
Thanks!
