Batch Rename - Ignore file extension with duplicates

Post by stevehero »

See attached as you can see the duplicate counter will reset even though they are the same format.

If there was an option for excluding the file extension for batch rename that would be great.

Yes, the new Ignore extension for # enumerator works just fine.

When translating to German, I stumbled over this new checkbox "Ignore extension for # enumerator". In XnView Classic there's no such option and enumerator is increased for every file regardless of the files' extensions. So by default XnView MP should also increase the enumerator for each file (regardless of the files' extensions), I think.

This new checkbox offers flexibility which can always be helpful. Perhaps it could get a more meaningful and clearer name, though.
Some ideas:
"[ ] Don't increase # enumerator for files that differ only by extension" (please note the inverse logic of the checkbox. Default is "off")
or
"[x] Increase #enumerator also if only extension differs"

Perhaps some English native speakers can help to find a good wording.
