Hmm, thats strange I didn't have any problems installing XnView ShellEx v1.2.
However my XnView is installed in C:\Program Files\XnView not sure if it makes a difference or not.

What DLL ?

Post by Clo »

:) Hi again Pierre !
- The snag is that the error-message doesn't tell WHAT other needed file is missing or not found WHERE…
- I thought that under Win 98 SE, the System-dir is C:\windows\System, while it's C:\windows\System32 in NT-based OSs.
- Moreover, the variable for CSIDL_SYSTEM is not supported by Win 98:

Image

- On this pic - a part of a Registry variable-strings viewer result-window-, it's obvious that %SYSTEM% or so can't work; it could be possible to force Win to set it, but this needs a Shell32.dll version 5.0, while the newest supported by Win 98 SE is mine : v. 4.72.3612.1700, already newer than the original one (patch…)
•  Hence, whether the issue is located around this, the full paths could solve the problem…

A suggestion:

If it's not too hard and/or cumbersome to code, how about a way for a user to limit the thumbnail, such as no thumbnail preview for images over 2 megs in size?

This extension is almost perfect for a not so computer savvy friend running '98 with only 64megs of ram.

Shell extension dies horribly when corrupted/malformed JPEGs are right-clicked, which makes it a little annoying to delete them.

How about a submenu?

Post by notnoisy »

I would prefer to view the thumbnail in a submenu. Is it possible to get this as an option?

My explorer context-menu is becoming a bit long :)

If you right click on a Nikon D70 NEF raw file the shell extension locks the explorer for some seconds an then crashes (the explorer).

Is it as a workaround possible to exclude this file type?
