Problems with XnView in Ubuntu

Post by christian99 »

Hi,

I am trying to install the latest XnView on my Ubuntu 8.10. When running XnView it is facing a couple of problems.

First I tried XnView-1.70-x86-unknown-linux2.x-static-fc4, but it looks like this:
http://www.filmklappen.de/fileadmin/gal ... nview3.jpg

Then I installed the Ver 1.90 for Windows in Wine, it is better, but first I can not read the filenames in the browser, when I click on a picture:

http://www.filmklappen.de/fileadmin/gal ... xnview.jpg

and second, the tabs of the browser resp. the picture view vanishs if I put the mouse on it:

I hope there is anyone who has a idea how to fix this, as long as the MP version (which is great until now) does not have all the features.

Thanks a lot in advance;-)!

My results with Xnview in Ubuntu and LinuxMint are pretty much the same as yours. I find the Linux version 1.70 to be completely unuseable. Windows version 1.90 is useable under Codeweavers Crossover but I get the same annoying quirks as you see with Wine and the experience is not as pleasant as it could be. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any Linux programs that provide Xnview's functionality. I tried Irfanview under Crossover and its quirks are much worse than those of Xnview 1.9.

Jerry, you might want to give the latest alpha version of XnView MP a try.

Less quirks with native dll for me

Tab problem goes away when using a native comctl32.dll.
Here is the command to force its use:

Code: Select all

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="comctl32=n" wine xnview.exe
Note: Use of that dll is disabled in some recent versions (of wine) unless a certain odd-named settings file containing the term "deadbeef.manifest" is renamed, removed, or edited. It is found at: "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/manifests/".
