Negative and sepia are easy, but old photo? Very difficult in an icon.

I remember a set of folder icons:

• Old = grayscale & cobweb-covered

They look good to me! Simple and direct, but with differing visual impact, making them easy to distinguish from other icons.

"A" for AutoLevel & AutoContrast

Doesn't the use of letters defy the whole concept of iconography?
Besides the wizard wand, a lightning bolt seems to be another common symbol for “Automatic”.

The color map plus color wheel of #4 and #5 would be great for a “Convert to...” drop-down toolbar button.
The palette, gray-scale, and color ramp icons in the first three proposals could be used for the individual “Convert to <color depth>” commands.

Wizard wand and lightning bolt are compex and too common.
"A" - simple, small and looks like attribute for me.

From my perspective, #4 and #5 are just a "muddle"... too many colors and shapes to communicate effectively.

PS. Aren't color depth and palette really the same thing?
