what if you switched to a rebar menu (like IE)? i think i've seen rebar menus in MDI apps that don't have the icon, so that way you could keep MDI and just ditch the icon.

Here it is, that is how I want XnView to look like (I mean no "yellow area" bug).

As you see, Skype somehow doesn't show that icon.
That means it's possible.

skype uses a tabbed interface but not an MDI interface. as far as i know, the only true MDI apps that accomplish this use a rebar menubar instead of a standard menubar. however, i don't use the MDI functionality so i'd like to see a way to turn it off anyway.
