Browser Fullscreen

Post by lipidicman » Fri Dec 16, 2005 11:57 am

I would really like a browser fullscreen mode. I have seen a mention of this but I am not sure it was quite the same as I was thinking, so please forgive me if this is going over old ground! For me, this would mean that the window expands to remove the menu bar and title bar. Also the window should expand over the taskbar (I think this is what Firefox and IE does from memory)

To gain more real estate I would like to be able to remove the toolbar for the browser.

I spend a lot of time turning the preview, or the folder tree off depending on whether I want to see a lot of thumbs or a few thumbs and the preview. I would appreciate easier shortcuts than the three key ctrl-shift-P etc. I think there is a case for making the tree view auto hide in some way so it expands on mouseover.

I also have another little problem. I have widescreen so I use the three columns layout (tree, thumbs, preview) and when I turn the preview off and back on with ctrl-shift-P it forgets it size!

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work

Yes! I have recently become aware how useful this is (even though I've had my Windows taskbar set to auto hide for years...). Several apps that I use now have the mouse-over exposure activity for important panels.

The XNView folder tree is a great candidate for such behavior.

At the very least please let's have a button on the toolbar to toggle the tree visibility!

Please?

:) Hello John !
…At the very least please let's have a button on the toolbar to toggle the tree visibility!
- I think you mean something like this (at the left-end of the small tool-bar…) :

- Or else, something like this (at the left-end of the main tool-bar…) :

¤ Pierre has these pictures already (plus test bitmaps for the buttons) for… huuuu… ! ;)

- Simply as a hard-coded single button, since it is not possible to add one in the bar itself… currently.
- However, in order to get a look which matches with the current skin, I proposed an entry in the <info.txt> of the skins, allowing to display the appropriate bitmaps for these buttons (ON¦OFF = 2 small bitmaps…)

 Kind regards,
Claude

Hi Clo... Season's Greetings to you!

I thought about a button on the mini-toolbar, but a main toolbar toggle button would still be required in the case where the tree was hidden and the user hadn't "discovered" the mouse-over behavior... or didn't like it and wouldn't use it.

If the mouse-over behavior was NOT to be implemented, then we still need a main toolbar button to show/hide the tree. The menu is a less efficent approach for mouse-centric users.

If the mouse-over behavior was to be implemented, then we would need a toolbar button to show/hide the tree PLUS a pushpin control on the tree panel itself to prevent the autohide behavior if the user so desired.

Further, I conceive of the tree panel as being a special case or instance of a more generalized "container" panel with side-tabs (like a notebook) for different utility panels... one for the tree, one for IPTC/EXIF data, perhaps one for various conversion tools, or display preferences, or photo adjustment tools, or slide show settings/controls, etc.

All instantly available via mouse-over, or a click on a tab.

Many softwares use such tabbed side panels with mouseover hide/show behaviors to greatly useful effect... I wish more did.
John

:) Hi John !

* Season's Greetings to you too! *

- First, I have to admit that I thought to (a) button(s) only, in the case where the automatic action shouln't be implemented (that I don't wish specially… I fear exasperating unwanted “Open¦Close” continually when working in the browser…)
- For years, I use a HTML editor (by a programmer-friend) which has a narrow high button on the frame of the tree to show¦hide it, this is very simple, handy and convenient. And no risk to get the tree which springs up while you place your mouse cursor too close the edge :P

…The menu is a less efficent approach for mouse-centric users.
- Indeed ! It's well known I'm a Mouse-Man (look at the skin of the upper pic above !)
…PLUS a pushpin control on the tree panel itself to prevent the autohide behavior if the user so desired.
- I thought rather to a simple INI entry in order to simplify the interface, supposing the auto-hide feature be implemented… Of course : A typical TC-user state of mind.
- Anyway, good “to ring that bell” again while we have a beta on tests…

 Kind regards,
Claude

Thanks for the discussion on the 'tree mouseover'.

Just wanted to shift the post back onto the fullscreen browser idea. Anyone have any comments on this?

Two ½ months later…

Post by Clo » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:45 am

:) Hello !

- Now, we have 1.82.3 and nothing added to help for the “Browser Full screen”, at least by hiding the tree-dock easily.

• I had proposed buttons HERE ABOVE 2½ months ago (“only”)…

• Currently, the situation is even worse, since the keyboard short cut Ctrl+Shift+L does not work, like it's reported HERE.
