meh... anyways most people run 32 bit system. I'm certain that Pierre will compile a new x64 XnShell for 2.81 or if not for the new upcoming version.

I love the simplistic 'About' banner :) but if I may sugest, for the next version it needs a little refinement:
Image
= first I moved the 'eye' logo a little to the right so that it's not too close to the edge
= I moved the text 'xnview shell extension' downwards so that it's not too close to the edge
= the (C) copyright logo SHOULD be written as ' © ' (it would look better)
= added a further essential version number suffix (so it 2.80.2 or whatever separate build)

===============================================================================

Along with the above request, below are all my XnShell requests in total that have been consolidated for Pierre's consideration:

budz45 wrote:I think the 'Associated program' option should be enabled by default. In fact there could also be another third option entitled 'None' (for users that don't wish the image to launch in any viewer). :D
Image
as you can see on a default installtion on Vista, it is blank..
I think this 16x16 icon would be much better looking for XnShell right-click menu. The png here is just fine, I made.
budz45 wrote:3. Allow backing up of settings to a local file (like a .ini file) so that settings can be restored conveniently. What would also be nice about this backup feature is if during installation we could simply place this small local file next the XnShellEx.exe installer and then during installtion just simply install settings alongside app
budz45 wrote:Thanks.

I also just thought of this idea also:

*FEATURE IDEA* - In the Xnview Shell Extension 'Options' , give us tickbox's for the filetypes that show in the below image in controlling which ones show on the 'convert into' sub-menu and in addition to this option the easy opportunity into ordering how they show in the menu (move up / move down) + tickbox for tick selection to show and no tick to not show.

Any opinions on my suggestions?

budz45 wrote:Pierre, Im exicted and pleased about all the new agreed features going into Xnview Shell Extension and I am still excited and awaiting when your ready at your pace.

I want to make two more points, the first is for the next version the second is for the future.

1. This is for the next version - all those features you previously agreed you will add may take up a lot of window space so I can further propose you consider adding 'tabs' to that Options window like this:

... This is just an idea but if you don't like tabs it's totally fine I don't mind really

budz45 wrote:Another feature suggestion: Shell Icon File Path

When you install Stardock's IconPackager, on Windows, you notice that when you right click on any file or folder the application has a shell integrated feature to display the icon's file path (intuitive). It such a small shell feature in IconPackager and would be really nice if this small feature was replicated to being added in Xnview Shell Extension in the future....

budz45 wrote:hello again Pierre,

It has been brought to my attention by a user about the slight visuals in recent XnShell http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=19015 . Nothing much really except I belive we came to an agreement on one to two minor things:

1. In the default 'no sub-menu' we agreed it could (too easy) be changed to "XnShell Options..." Without the adding of the semi-colon ":"

2. In all the foreign languages also add the prefix "XnShell" to the menu's text too (example. French lang)

3. In 'sub-menu without preview' try to change showing the text of 'image information' to show above the "XnShell" text and within the highligher too http://i49.tinypic.com/tan761.png - this also means you could remove the semi-colon ":" in this menu choice also

4. In 'no sub-menu' also too make the 'image information' show under the menu highlighter too, so that it may look better when displayed with 'filename' - Otherwise you could instead consider making the 'image information' non clickable, would that be better?

5. In the Options window, you could consider adding hovering Tooltip info on only certain items or even better on all items.

6. ICON PATH feature - OK, I have been re-thinking that 'Icon's Path' featurehttp://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1144&start=150#p76674 that you agreed would make XnShell. I remeber you asked me where I thought it could go. In Stardock IconPackager, I could only use such feature from it's shell integration with the Windows 'Properties' window, However for XnShell you can agree that this won't be the same like that. So I have just drawn a good mock-up of how it could come about in XnShell (see below), remember it's for any icon seen on any file even if a file has no icon but generic Windows icon then the icon file path to this can still be fetched. Please re-examine how IconPackager does it:

I have drawn some great pictures for this after figuring it out.....

a) this can be the setting: http://i50.tinypic.com/wwlwu1.png

b) when right clicking on a standard XnShell supported image to preview in 'no sub-menu' it can show like this: http://i47.tinypic.com/30121bo.png , also for 'sub-menu without preview' and the 'All' choices

c) and then this context menu item will show when clicking on Any and All file extensions (that are not image pics to be shown): http://i49.tinypic.com/n18cx5.png

d) And finally, the grand finale, THIS is what the actual program window could look like (very basic but powerful): http://i47.tinypic.com/29l0os7.png ---- you could also make the filename clickable in this window that will run the file as normal (the file not the actual icon) and make highlighter for the clickable:

what do you think of everything?

budz45 wrote: 2. IN THE FUTURE: Add audio metadata handling Since Xnview Shell Extension is named in this lovely way (I really like) then in the future, after some versions, you could in long future consider adding audio metadata viewing and editing from within Windows Explorer just like AudioShell and Vista's right-click properties can do. My justification for this idea is that AudioShell has stopped development and is behind and XP users don't have the Vista tag editor in shell properties like so. Xnview Shell Extension is almost fully complete in the image handling department so I just recently thought that it could add audio file handling not to the main xnview but as part of the extension into the shell (think about this for the future XSE).

The editor and viewer will be integrated into Windows (right-click > Properties)
Support for Shell infotip ; customisable infotip on what is shown
You can add tags reading & edit support for id3 v1, id3 v2, wma, ape, aac/mp4, flac, wav,
Support for Cover Art (Album art)
Support for extra tags usually found in WMA and id3 v2 such as: Composer, Publisher, Lyrics,
Overall will look like Vista's details pane for audio metadata handling; except more features and customisable layout

Good examples of a Shell tagger and infotip:

Vista's right click properties -tag editor-
Image

AudioShell's -tag editor-
Image

AudioShell's infotip
Image

dbPowerAmp's infotip which I found posted on the vlc forum
Image

You could use the Open-Source tag handling library known as TagLib to add this feature
http://developer.kde.org/~wheeler/taglib.html
and add something like Libtagext to TagLib to add more fucntionality to the library
http://sourceforge.net/apps/wordpress/l ... lib-audio/

I'm so happy with the release of XnShell 2.9.0 - I'm so happy with the release :D :D

I quickly made this image to show the 'Rotate' function in XnShell:

Hi! XnShell works very well here Window 7 64-bit, XnView portable. I have only a suggestion and a couple of issues. The main thing I'm a little aware of is that when using the thumbnail preview, that i love, the context menu changes its appearance, like the color of the menu and the separators that don't match the theme of the "real" context menu. But, when using XnShell with all options in a submenu the theme matches. Is there the possibility to avoid this behavior? Another little thing (cause I'm a maniac about icons on menus), is there the possibility to have an option to disable/enable the XnView icon on the contextual menu. I really appreciate this. Anyway everything works very very well, GREAT WORK!!! Sorry for the criticism, i can't stand without XnView!! Greetings, Andrea.

Yes I know what you mean on that one.

The "all" display on XnShell is normal, just fine, for Vista/7 context menu style) - http://i41.tinypic.com/25yw0fo.jpg

However,

The "sub-menu without preview" and "no sub-menu" display cause the slight change in the Vista context menu (look at the highlighter) - http://i39.tinypic.com/2mpwff7.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/acr89k.jpg

Even in other shell extension picture viewers this is so:
ClickPic; http://i44.tinypic.com/2lm19up.png
Shelltoys's 'Image Size'; http://i40.tinypic.com/2yla82c.png

So this has to be a Vista/7 context menu limitation in relation to displaying images directly on the context menu.

Is there any plans add support for previewing any files that XnView currently supports (images, video, audio), not only image files?

Previewing audio and video through the shell context menu???

But why. It's not needed and if actually added would rely upon Windows Media Player.... but let's see what Pierre decides. Sorry I don't support that idea.

Why? - Same reasons why previewing images via shell context menu is useful. You probably never tried PicaView...
Here is a quick example why it would be useful:
You have one player that is used for all kind of media files, audio and video, but it doesn't support multiple instances (yes, Windows Media Player is one of them), so every time you open a file it will replace currently playing media file with a new one, or maybe it adds new file at the end or under current playing file in the playlist. Either way you'll have to cancel listening/watching whatever you were watching in order to "preview" the new file.
With XnView Shell Extension you could preview the file and don't be afraid that it will mess up your long playlist.

And I guess second reason: it should be quicker then open that file in a player, even if it uses WMP.

My suggestions:

- make separate page about XnView Shell Extension (with detailed info)

- add custom size for image resizing option

- add "Fit to desktop" in "Set wallpaper as" (I think that "Fit to desktop" is better than "Best fit to desktop")

Btw, XnView Shell Extension is now on my blog (I guess first Serbian blog/web site with some useful info about Extension) ;)

I want to thank you making a 64 bits Shell Extension of XNView, I just installed Windows 64 bits and I can continue using it, the 32 bits doesn't work. There is one thing though I find strange, I downloaded the latest version 2.91 64 bits from the website but when I install it and look in the option, it says the version is 2.90. Did the dev made a mistake on his website by putting the latest version as 2.91?

Hi,

I'm having an issue with XnView Shell Extension. I've come to rely on its "Send to Imageshack" feature but lately it just doesn't work. Any thoughts?
