Date anomaly in Image Properties and EXIF

I have some images where the Date Taken, Date Created & Date Modified are different where there should be no difference. In fact some images display a Date Created of 01/01/1980! Clearly impossible. Some images appear to have been 'Modified' before they were created,

When using another Browser (the Sony one supplied with my DSLR A100) everything is ok - all the dates are correct and agree with each other except where I know that I have changed the image.

XnView v 1.91, Win 2k SP4.

Any ideas?
