How to see thumbnails of mp4 files in browser

Post by pope5 »

I just installed the latest version 2.49.1 of XnView classic for Windows to view a folder, which holds pictures (jpg), movies created by my JVC camera (.tod) and movies created by my Smartphone Galaxy S7 (.mp4).

When I start the program, the .jpg and the .tod files are shown as thumbnails, however the .mp4 files (from the smartphone) are only shown as a small icon (shutter). When I doubleclick a .tod file, the VLC media player opens in a seperate window an plays the film. When I doublecklick a .mp4 file, a green barcode is shown for a short moment in the Xnview window at the bottom on the right side, but nothing else happens.

I wonder, how also these files can be shown with a thumbnail and play at least with the VLC player?
Do I have to set something in the program?

While already searching the the forum, here are the data of the MediaInfo for both files. And I have not installed any Codec Pack:

I have installed the K-Lite Codec pack "Standard". However the thumbnails are still show as before. See my attachment.

Do I have to install the "full" version of this codec pack?

Thank you for your help.

Peter

PS: as I find many advices, that there may be a lot of problems when installing a codec pack, I would like to ask if there is a way to install the needed codec directly. And how can I determine, which codec is it?

... of course, no problem.

Here is a file from my Galaxy S7.

Regards

Peter

PS: there is a problem! The file is 22MB large and thus too big.

I have uploaded it to the magenta cloud. Just klick this link
to download it. You need a password which reads xnview .

Right, the codec (from Klite) has problem to extract a thumbnail. Only XnView MP can extract it correctly...

do I have to install the Codec K-Lite also for XnViewMP?

And my question before: is it possible to install only the appropriate codec or must I install the full codec package?

Thank you for your reply.
