Error using gflax.dll on Windows 7 x64

Post by Flensje »

Hi,

A long time ago I donwloaded a .vbs script that creates thumbnails from .jpg files using the gflax.dll.

If I download GFLAx (ActiveX/ASP component) v2.82 setup file and install it on Windows 7 x86, the script works just fine.
If I download and install the same file on Windows 7 x64, the script returns an error stating the gflax.dll is not registered.

Should this work? (is Windows 7 x64 supported?)
If it should, suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Regards,
Ashley.

Hi Piere,

Thank you for your reply.
I'm glad to hear there is a x64 version, but where can I find it?
From the xnview.com homepage I went to the GFL SDK Download page (http://www.xnview.com/en/download_gfl.html).
For Windows, there is a SDK (x86 & x64) en 2 Ax versions (light and standard). I need the Ax version and tried both on my x64 Windows 7 system, but with no joy..
I also downloaded the SDK zip file, but that does not contain an installer.

Please advise.

Right, you must download the ZIP version. You have the 2 versions, and a .bat to register the dll

Hi Piere,

I'm not sure what you mean...
I downloaded all 3 .zip files from the http://www.xnview.com/en/download_gfl.html page and extracted them.
None of those files have a .bat (or .cmd) file...

Please advise.

Still no bat file?

And also the included gflax.dll is not correct. That DLL cannot be installed as an ActiveX component.

Yep. You are right. Unfortunately it seems the maker of this gets mixed up with GFLSDK and GFLAX, and will often update one of these and put it in the zip file, but forgets to include the corresponding updated version of the other, so you have to completely mismatched versions of GFLSDK and GFLAX. I have no clue how to remedy this, as until he releases the correct version, there is no way to get a copy of it. So for all practical purposes, it's as if the new version of GFLAX doesn't even exist. The only way I know of how to get him to remember that he made a mistake, so that he can correct it, will be to "hound" him on the issue until he finally does remember that he'd forgotten to correct this mistake.
