Crashes and startup difficulties on MacOSX

I am trying to use xnview on my Mac. There some inconsistencies:
1. Starting XnView.app starts X11 but sticks in the application. Only the second start leads to the X-Window application
2. Nearly always after terminating XnView in browser mode, it crashes leaving long crash logs.
Are thre any experiences what I am doing wrong?
