tif preview problem

Post by ggcanave » Sun Jan 15, 2006 4:51 pm

Hi,
In XnView 1.82 RC1 I can't see the thumbnails or preview files in tif files larger than 4030 x 2709 pixels.
Maybe I am doing something wrong. Version 1.80.3 works fine.

I can confirm with a 11500x12000 TIFF-file :D (was saved by xnview 1.80.1 and preview works there).

[edit]
I just played around a bit (with deleted/new ini). All my tests start with a 3008x2000x24 jpeg from a Nikon D70 (image ONE).

1) saved it as tiff (-> image TWO). Everything okay.
2) resized to 200% and saved as tiff (-> image THREE).
  1. No thumbnail, no preview, no size information, etc. (as reported).
  2. XnView crashes in 'thumbnail & detail' view!
  3. Image is opened in new window not in tab and image-view is not maximized.
3) made resize-iterations until preview, etc. works -> resized to 4046x2697 (-> image FOUR) Increasing width or height by 1 pixel causes same behaviour as image THREE

-> bugs if tiff is bigger than 4.046x2.697=10.912.062 pixels (perhaps a little bit more or less, as it depends on aspect ratio)

Confirm.

I created such big TIFF in PhotoImpact. Generally it is not recognized as image. Didn't get crash though.

Smaller TIFF created with the same settings is handled OK.

Perhaps option/browser/Item displayed/Files smaller than setting??

I don't remember the size, but file should be displayed in View anyway.

Hm, can't reproduce the crash today. Even thumbnail/preview from newly created tiff (same file, same save options) with the size I mentioned above works.

Yes, after some more testing, I think you are right and my image was over the limit. I didn't think of this setting...

But the options are especially for limiting the maximum filesize for preview/thumbnail!? What do you mean with 'View'?

I meant that after pressing Open button image should be normally viewed.
No thumbnail or preview is OK- file above limit.

There is no limit when viewing a file

And that is the problem in my case. Big TIFF was not recognized as image at all, Open action for 'All other files' was used, while for smaller TIFF Open action for 'Images' was used.

Oh yes, a problem. I understand. Your file is not recognized as image, no header readed. So this file is a unknown file....
But how to resolve it???

Mmmm, I think I get it now. Because file type is not recognized when creating file list, it has no chance to be recognized at Open. So maybe this problem cannot be solved with current system of recognizing filetypes.

Here is my point of view on subject, I'll also add handling for the case from this thread.
