In many cases, the MP crashes under Win XP without any apparent reason… That's quite random…but continual !
Just keeping it open, do nothing –> Crash!
Hence, please consider the following points :
1. Some means to save the settings are indispensable to continue the tests, here all is lost at each new start, it's exasperating.
2. A log file is needed for such a version,
3. Testing only in (your) English sucks. But whether you persist in the plan for the "tool" to "translate", I'll resign to help here;
Anyway, after more than 50 crashes, I stop for now. :x
Despite the "flowers" from others, even a prototype must have minimal features to allow a decent testing, IMHO, sorry…

:) Hello Paul !
…Just keeping it open, do nothing –> Crash!
• I confirm : For instance, just minimize it in the task bar of Win, do nothing, and I get a crash within a certain delay
(seconds, minutes…) and Dear Bill comes and closes. :|
1. Some means to save the settings are indispensable to continue the tests, …
• Indeed, I support !
2. A log file is needed for such a version,
• Naturally ! I wonder that we have not any log file, it could help a lot!
3. Testing only in (your) English sucks. But whether you persist in the plan for the "tool" to "translate", I'll resign to help here; …
• I agree totally. I swore that I'll never use again the spread-sheet tools and the crappy resulting files !
Anyway, after more than 50 crashes, I stop for now. :x
• You are bolder than me, I got less, but same, I stop too currently.
Despite the "flowers" from others, even a prototype must have minimal features to allow a decent testing…
• That's obvious !

With a crystal ball ?

Post by Clo »

 XnTriq

:) Hello !

• Well, but if we don't report the worst bugs, how Pierre can know to improve
a first really usable version, even an Alpha-beta ?
- Using a crystal ball, or testing endlessly by himself ? :P

• Also, hearing what important features will be set is decisive to lead my behaviour regarding that new XnView…

• My first impression is :
- Good for the design¦look,
- Bad for the using currently,
- Horrible about the planned languages¦translation system, that for sure shall make I will not continue here.
Point noted…

Whups... must've missed that line somehow in the eve of excitement ^^'

Anyways, I cannot join into the crash-complaining that much (only had the one mentioned above (and that one was apparently quickly "fixed" for me)), but I've used the "first impression" Alpha for over eight hours in a row now - without any apparent crashes/glitches whatsoever (only shuffling through a few hundred pics and dozens of folders of various sorts, to quickly find files for Indesign).
Also, I was really impressed by the overall speed. Indexing and scanning of large folders only took a few seconds (on a old and lame 4200 hd). Much faster than GraphicConverter, though.

All together that's rather impressive for a first glance release, or so I would say!

So only to report: All's cool at the Mac-front! ^__^

This part has been added just recently. Sorry for some confusion.

It's only a demo, need to work on it

I use the system used on almost all program on linux, you can edit the xml file or use the translator.
Does NOT work under: iBook-PPC/OSX10.3.9//crashes immediately upon double-clicking the icon
I've build only a 10.4 version, i'll try to build a 10.3.9

XML=Crap

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Hello !

• XML ? Not better… For example, Sven (Author of Speed Commander) chose that format,
and now he resigns to make his programme multilingual, because he got ONE fully translated language… SEE HERE

• From the doc of the "tool" :
…Qt itself contains over 400 strings that will also need to be translated into the languages that you are targeting.…
 Good luck !

That's all.

Don't worry. I guess it's not that important, since many people switch to Leopard, anyways. And you've got enough work to do already, not? ;)

Translations in XML can be edited and created easily using a text or XML editor. If needed, a simple tool can be written easily. So in mid-term translation should no longer be an issue...

Good Job

Good Job.

I've tested it with Window$ XP and Ubuntu 7.10.

In despite of one PC not fully working with Linux, XNVIEWMP works in the same way on both systems.

Great. Do continue...

Under Leopard it looks a-okay. Only thing I miss is a possibility to check other filesystems (networks, external discs, etc.).

It doesn't look good on Gnome/XFCE... may look "native" on KDE but looks "alien" here.
Is it a toolkit problem?
Is there way to avoid those huge and ugly fonts/panels/scrollbars/tabs?
