Brand New XnView File-type Icons (see this Topic!)
Hello forum,
This is just a preview of what I've created, these is no available download as yet
(completion date:- feb-05, 2012 , 22:55pm)
Designed by/Author: budz45© for XnView Newsgroup forum
Apple's "H.I.G." complient
.tga - ico -icon snapshot
.bmp - icns -icon snapshot This time there are 15 icons in total all based on the original XnView 1.9x contained icons:
bmp, png, gif, jpg/jp2/jpc , tif, raw, pcx, webp, tga, wmf/emf/psd and a 'generic' icon
....I intentionally did not create ones for 'iff' or 'pic' and felt these two were not valid enough anymore for own icon variation. All other file-types (hundreds supported in XnView's case ) would expectedly just use the 'generic' file icon (included) during file associations.
I hope you like this preview enough for a consideration into a future XnView MP
regards, budz

Hello,
nice to you to share your work...
It's clean and I like the background color concept. But, I think the inner "round" is too thin.

Nice design, budz45. Not 100% sure what user 'lian' means, but I think that the inner spiral should be a bit longer and start earlier and end later. Alternatively, the spiral could be broken and continue in the inner.
Also, I wonder what the colourful icons will look like in real usage, e.g. in Windows Explorer. Perhaps you could post a sample screenshot to judge better.
Thank you for your continuous effort, here and outside the forum, budz!
Helmut

Really? You think it should be wider? It's really not a big issue.lian wrote:Hello,

You mean like the 'red centre' of the original MP logo, you think that detail is really necessary especially for smaller sizes? Even on the original current MP 'eye' logo at 32x32 this cannot be seenhelmut wrote:Alternatively, the spiral could be broken and continue in the inner.
Use of color is the most frequent of document design file-type icons. Just like Microsoft Office, foobar2000, KMPlayer - all use color categorized icons for distinctionhelmut wrote: Also, I wonder what the colourful icons will look like in real usage, e.g. in Windows Explorer. Win XP and Win 7 Explorer screenshot:
So it looks like I forgot to update the text+logo for the 48x48 page of 'WebP' and 'Tif' icon - ok I'll get that fixed

I meant the spiral, sorry. It's too thin so it's much more like a line.

I'm sorry, I really don't want to go back and change this again. Way too much time it would take for such a rather small change. Although thank you for the the critique.lian wrote:I meant the spiral, sorry. It's too thin so it's much more like a line.
-The 'thinness' is not deal-breaker and overall the design is still a good representation of the original MP logo. I remember how forum members were overly critical of thibaud's original MP logo design. Folks gotta be appreciative of time and thought that goes into some designs and I am by no means a professional, I am just a follower of Photoshop tutorials and an Icon enthusiast. (not getting at you dear lian )
Another preview + the 'webp' & 'tif' @ 48x48 got fixed

I will use your icons if they get packed in XNView. I like very much the "background color" concept

Thank you for all the feedback you have given me lian.lian wrote:I will use your icons if they get packed in XNView. I like very much the "background color" concept
Yes I now fully understand your 'thin' spiral concern you raised and I made these comparisons....
A newer 'eye' for lian with more original spiral

I do prefer this one. The eye is much more in evidence.

Updated with better spiral.
I will make sure to get the 1024x1024 png page added into the ICNS versions.

Salut Budz45,
Edit : s'agit de "A newer 'eye' for lian with more original spiral"

The updated version looks really cool. I'm not so much used to colourful icons, but the icons look really good - even in larger groups. Thank you for your sample screenshots and your effort in updating the design, budz!

Hi there!
I would like to create an xnview-style icon for svgs - but I can't find a template.
Is there any chance to find the necessary psd file anywhere?
Best regards, MT.

If nobody responds to you, return back (repost) after 0.90 is released. Now most probably the attention is concentrated on this beta.
