Categories does not filter individual folders

Post by orbspider »

Hi,

I am getting closer and closer to preferring XnviewMP over Digikam! Only at the moment I can't find any way to filter single folders with a selected Category (IPTC keyword).
All I can do is make a search of the whole DB. Is there a way to do this?

I really need to filter individual folders -and I think that is a basic function. For example, I have added keywords to most images in a new image set and I need to filter those with "car" and those with "dog" so that I can move them or upload them.

Otherwise, at least I need to see folder divisions in the Category db filter result -but to find one folder's images from them all would take more time.

Thanks a lot

XnViewMP 64bit (Debian Wheezy)
Version 0.51 (Jun 26 2012)
Libformat version 6.10

I've been using categories a lot the last couple of days, and I have to say that XnViewMP handles IPTC keywords very well, and the UI is better than Digikam's, and Picasa's. Multiple deleting of categories is nice, when you need to. That's not poss in Digikam, unless they changed it in the newer release which I couldn't install.

I use the Space-bar for tagging as well and "select tagged" for applying a category to many files in one go.

But I would be really happy to see a filter by category at top of File List pane :D . The search field doesn't work for me with categories.

I'd like to have a filter set at top and then be able to browse any folder (or category) and that filter wouldn't cancel, until I cancel it myself.

The filter could apply to a folder and it's sub-folders (with button "Include sub-folders" and option filter by: sub-folder /flat list)

Digikam here wins because of fixed filter until the user cancels it and choice of flat view of all files in folder with sub-folders, or the list is divided by folders.

So is this something already in planning? I hope so, cos what you have here is becoming a really solid piece of software. merci beaucoup!
