For assigning a set of categories to a file it would be good to have shortcuts available assigned to the sets.
So not only single categories should have shortcuts also sets should have shortcuts.

It is a very good addition - one of the critical features of one of the most used programs in news/media (especially at Olympics) is this one. There these sets are called "Master"(s).
How to do it:
1. In "Add Set" add also a field for the shortcut.
2. Change the caption of "Rename Set" to "Edit Set Properties" (for ex.) and add also a field for the shortcut.
Store the shortcut in an appropriate new field in the TagSets table.
Wire this layer to the keyboard processing pipeline and trigger "(UN)Assign Set to selection..."

Now more than one year has passed since this suggestion and no word if it will be implemented.
Again the suggestion: The problem is that currently only single categories can be assigned to files by keyboard shortcut. So if you want to assign multiple categories you have to do multiple keystroke.
It would be much easier if we could have shortcuts for set also. This way we could group multiple categories to sets and then assign the set (=all categories within a set) to the file selected.

I think that your suggestion is very good but your timing is very bad. We are focused on getting out the 0.91. Bump this thread again after 0.91 is officially released.

Thank you for supporting this suggestion. However I don't think it is about timing.
Generally there is very few feedback from the developers on new suggestions. There is also no roadmap so you never know if a suggestion will even be considered for implementation.
I strongly suggest to overhaul the process for user suggestions and give feedback regarding chance of implementation. Also when publishing a roadmap for XnViewMP bumping would no longer be required.
