Extend ratings and colors options

Post by jadO »

Current: Only 5 color labels (red, yellow, green, blue and purple)
Bad: These are too few options
Solution: Add more color options (black, white, orange, brown, light blue, navy, dark green etc.)

Also:

Current: Only 5 levels of rating exist (1-5)
Bad: These are too few options
Solution: Expand rating to 1-9

Please, do NOT extend ratings, for several reasons.
- Compatibility to rating systems from other software
- grades from 1 to 5 is common and intuitive. From 1-10, it is definitely NOT. Other users might prefer 1-256. Thats simply crazy. Never change a running (working) system.
Olympus OMD E-M1, BS Kinetics underwater housing, 2xSubtronic pro 160 flashes. Zuiko mFT lenses: 60 macro, 7-14, 8 mm fisheye, 12-100, PanaLeica 100-400.

While compatibility is a good point, the others I think are not as grade 1-5 do not really allow for fine tuning. Also it is very common on the internet to pass half star ratings, which is in fact a scale from 0-9 + unrated.
This is very common and intuitive as well plus such a system does not necessarily break compatibility. For import or export into other software half star rating could be transformed into full stars, e.g. a 3.5 in XnViewMP could turn into a 3 when exported while a 3 would remain a 3 when imported.
The suggested expansion would allow a more granular approach when it comes to rating.
