Real-Time Thumbnail Caching

A feature that I truly desperately need is the ability to instantly update the thumbnails of new files, even when you're not currently browsing that current directory. Like Everything search( or Picasa. So it'd constantly watch for the directories listed in "Catalog->Cache maintenance" for new files or file changes and instantly update the thumbnail database accordingly.

Another thing is that when I add new folders to a directory in Windows explorer, the corresponding directory in my favourites list doesn't update accordingly, which is incredibly disappointing.

Another related minor thing is the processing of new directories you add to "Cache maintenance". Can you please make it so that it runs in the background with queue-ing support? It''d save so much time as you can add multiple directories at once and do other tasks while it loads in the background.

Your help will be greatly appreciated and thank you for your amazing software!

That "instantly" word...

The hardware will not be able to do this. Everything takes much, much less information directly from the folders structure which is already cached in RAM by the OS and that's why it is fast. It takes just few KB.

XnView, even if is (one of) the fastest browsers available cannot do this because it should take waaaay more info - 100thx fold - for example just for one image there are thousands of pixels (each pixel is three bytes) which must be lifted from the storage. Even a SSD cannot do this instantly for few images let alone for a folder full of images. XnView MP does a good job trying to fill the screen with the thumbs but if you scroll quickly and the files are big, the hardware simply cannot cope with the data flow needed for this.

You can add a list of folders to XnViewMP and the program generate the thumbnails and refresh them.
In settings menu you find the tab included/excluded folders, where you can define your directories for scanning.
If you start the generate thumbnails function in catalog tab, you will refresh and generate all thumbnails.
