Metadata - unify menu group in Browser/Viewer toolbar and context menu

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.4.0 64bit
Windows11 (22H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Suggestion
metadata_unify_menu_group.png
  • unify Metadata's menu group:
    - combine all Metadata-related items into single menu group
    - make Metadata menu group same in Toolbar and Context for Viewer/Browser modes

done in 1.5.0b1

but why are they different
  • why Viewer missing
    - Edit GPS data...
    - Change timestamp...
    - Face tag...
    - EXIF Thumbnail - even this item, if its possible - user shall be able to do it
    - Transfer
  • why Browser context menu missing
    - Face tag...
    - EXIF Thumbnail
Image

imho, its extremely annoying when the same menus loosing items,
its OK to disable items, but there shall be very solid basis for that.

Some functions doesn't exist in image data mode, only on files

You can configure it, but context menu contains most used menu item not all

are there plans to add them?

Because all this stuff with limiting functionality to Viewer/Browser modes seems artificial and unnecessary.
There are some features that definitely belongs to:
- Browser mode, eg Catalog,Import,Compare,Search,Listing
- Viewer mode, eg Image color/size adjustments
but all other tools..

It just feels annoying when you only use app as viewer and forced to switch to Browser mode to edit some metadata or remove it completely via the exact same menu, but with new items appeared magically. And you have to know that these new items exist there.. what can be a privacy/security concern when not removing full metadata - you ticked all checkboxes, but surprise-surprise it is not enough if you are in Viewer mode.

That's why I'm for menu unification in the first place.
