Edit: The vmt is just a text file for the game engine and not relevant for the shell extension, in this case.

vtf (Valve texture) reading code is not a plugin its a built-in functionality of XnView.

OK thank you!

And this means I have to ask Pierre for a plug-in?
Or will SagaeThumbs provide support for VTF with the next release?

From what one can see in the list of all supported formats, XnView does not support reading or writing the VTF format. So Sage Thumbs will not support the VTF format, either.

For more details on format support see FAQ 'Does XnView support graphic format .xyz?'.

Hope this helps to clarify things.

EDIT: There seems to be some kind of support (currently not listed in the list of all formats), see topic VTF support.

That's not correct. VTF is not listed there, but support was definitively added with version 1.97.3.

Right, see my EDIT above.

@Nikolay:
If a new format is supported in XnView (like VTF in XnView 1.97.3 for example), will Sage thumbs automatically support it? Or do you need to build a new version of Sage Thumbsn? Any other things to take into account?

PS: Thank you for your Sage Thumbs and your support, here. The View counter of this topic is close to 100.000 views - this shows how popular your Sage Thumbs is. :-)

SageThumbs uses Pierr's GFL library which also has ability to use XNView's plugins (by specifying plugin folder). So SageThumbs supports GFL's built-in plus XnView's plugin folder formats.

In other words: Support for VTF and others is automatically added with the next SageThumbs release?

And I have another question: If I just download the XNView zip package, where do I have to extract the plug-ins to or where and how can I specify the directory path, so that SageThumbs is able to find the plug-ins?

No idea. Ask Pierre.

If SageThumbs cannot find XnView installtion it uses default folder: "C:\Program Files\XnView\Plugins\"

Here is the thread, where I asked by the way.
I hope this is useful for making SageThumbs supporting VTF shell extensions.

http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 200#p85200

It should work, but I personally am unable to get it to work. Don't know why...

Do you use embedded thumbnail flag?
Pierre.
