XnViewMp for Mac file delete failure

Post by bdesmet »

I am using XnViewMp 0.68 on Mac OS X 10.8.5

- Go to browse mode
- Select a picture from the list
- Right mouse click and choose Delete from the context menu
- Confirm the delete
- Nothing happens mostly, sometimes it works

I already did a lot of investigation to find the exact circumstance for the delete failure scenario, but I can't find it. I tested clearing the database, miniatures, I compared file attributes and read/write grants of image files, but I couldn't find a clear cause. I have no idea why one file gets deleted properly and another not.

Indeed, no message.

You choose delete. You have to confirm the delete with a dialog box. And nothing happens, the picture remains selected and is not removed.

I did the test with jpg files on XnViewMP 0.68 for Mac.

Do you have always this problem?? I've tried on 10.8.5, and no problem, the jpeg file is removed...

The delete failure happens "sometimes".

could you try that:
* select a file
* wait 5-10 sec
* delete it

works?

No, waiting 15 sec between select and delete did solve the issue.

I cannot find a logical pattern about when a delete is successful and when not.

For the moment, delete works "sometimes".

Hello, its same situation with XnviewMP 0.68 and Ubuntu 14.04 64bit - XnviewMP never actually delete files.

I identified the root cause, or least I think I'm getting close: delete failes systematically if the filename contains a whitespace.

e.g. example of delete failure on: /my picture.jpg
e.g. example of delete success on: /my_picture.jpg

This test case is reproducible.

Good question. This made me discover something else.

1. I empty my Mac OS X Trash can entirely.
2. I delete an image file 'my test.jpg'. Works perfectly. (So, the root cause is probably not related to spaces in filenames.)
3. I keep the removed 'my test.jpg' in my Trash Can.
4. I try to delete another file with the same name 'my test.jpg'. And here the delete failes. My Trash Can still only contains the deleted 'my test.jpg' from step 2.
5. I empty the Trash Can.
6. I retry the delete of step 4. Now the delete is succesful.

Best regards
