Setting startup directory to last does not have any effects anymore. It starts with empty view every time.

No this does not help.
In Xnview.ini the path should be saved under PathBrowser=, right?
When I manually put path in there then it opens with that path. But when I close the app and check in xnview.ini PathBrowser= is empty again.
It is the xnview.ini from version 0.86 that worked without this issue.

The xnview.ini is in the application directory where it should be.

Here is what I did: I unzipped version 0.87. Moved all databases from 0.86 directory to 0.87 directory and finally moved the 0.86 xnview.ini to the new 0.87 directory.
That's all and this is how I have done it in the past without issues.

do you have the rights to write in application directory? it seems that xnview.ini can't be saved

Yes I have all rights. When I change the mode from "last" to none, the startup type gets changed and xnview.ini gets saved correctly.
When I change it to last, switch to a directory and quit the application then the startup type has correctly changed in xnview.ini but PathBrowser is empty.

Very good. Yes Purge is checked and has been checked in version 0.86 as well.
I like it better like it was in 0.86. I don't need to remember files and folders only the last one.
