0.87: Renaming folder breaks preview of content as slides

Post by xobix »

XnView: MP 0.87 - 64 bit
OS: Linux - 64bit - Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

After renaming a folder in the folder pane and navigating to any other folder and then back prevents the reload of the content (preview slides) of the renamed folder. This remains until XnView is restarted.

Effect: folder content is not shown any more.

To reproduce:
1. navigate to folder <test>
2. once the preview slides are loaded, rename the folder to <test bug>
3. navigate to folder <test2>
4. wait until the folder content is shown as preview slides
5. navigate back to folder <test bug>

Actual behaviour (bug): now the preview slides are still the one of the previous folder <test2> and the images of <test bug> are not reloaded. This was also the case for 0.86 ( I updated today from 0.86 to see if this was fixed) :bug:

Expected behaviour: load and preview content of the modified folder just like before renaming

Let me know if I can help in hunting this bug any further.
Cheers!

UPDATE 5.11.17: once a folder was renamed it is also not possible to rename it again until next restart

I guess xobix means "2. when thumbnails are shown". I can confirm that: If a folder A1 is renamed to A2 and then another folder B is selected, then the content of folder A2 is not shown any more when selected again in the directory tree window :bug:. It is not shown using F5 :bug:.

However it is shown if the parent folder of A2 is selected in the directory tree and I change to A2 by double clicking the folder icon in the thumbnail window. Or when the application is closed and restarted.

Where do you rename the folder, in thumbnails or folder view?

I rename in folder view (meaning the data area with folders, bookmarks and categories on tabs).

Since I'm new to Linux I don't know how, hopefully xobix can do that.

I reproduced like this
1. select a folder containing images in the directory tree window. The thumbnails are shown.
2. rename this folder to "A2", either bei "click>rename" or F2. The new name is shown, thumbnails are still shown.
3. select any other folder in the directory tree. The thumbnails of this folder are shown.
4. select the previous folder A2 again by clicking it in the directory tree: :bug: No thumbnails are shown. :bug: Right click on this folder shows most options disabled (disabled are new folder, cut, copy, paste, delete, rename, copy to and move to).
5. select the parent folder of A2 in the directory tree. Its thumbnails are shown.
6. Double click the folder icon of A2 in the thumbnail area
7. Content of A2 is shown in the thumbnail area as it should be, the folder A2 is selected in directory tree, :bug: context menu still shows disabled entries.
8. While it is possible to rename A2 in the thumbnail area it is not possible in the directory tree until next restart of XnViewMP.

There is a similar, probably related bug:

1. Select a folder in directory tree window. Thumbnails are shown correct.
2. Now create a new folder using not XnViewMP but another tool like file manager.
3. This new folder is shown in thumbnail window in XnViewMP automatically (correct). But it is not shown in directory tree window, not even with F5 :bug:

Can you verify that your fix solves this, too?

Interesting, I can't reproduce any more, too. :|
I'm sure I had been able to reproduce that several times using 0.88 64 bit under Linux Mint before posting at Tue Nov 28, 2017 2:39 pm. But now it seems to be gone. I will let you know if it come back some day.

Hi Jochen,
Hi Pierre,

thanks for your efforts on this. For some reason I was not notified about the new answers to this thread :-(
Anyway, I am glad you both could reproduce the bug.

Is there any hope release 0.89 contains a fix to this bug?

Thanks,
Tobi
