File can't be loaded (JPEG)

Post by Morten »

Hi XnView forum,

I have a Axis Network Camera (Q6055-E) which take snapshots and save then online and to my LAN NAS drive.
I've used XnViewMP (on MacOS) to view the images for a long time, but now i'm unable to open random jpegs that the camera saves.
I can open the files in PhotoShop and e.g. Chrome browser (drag and drop image locally), but XnView giving me an error "File can't be loaded. (bug?)

I've attached two example files in this post. One file is ok and the other is not.
I had to zip the jpeg with error as I got http error when using the "Add files" on the forum posting and could not upload it as an jpeg.

Do anyone have any clue on whats wrong with that jpeg or is it XnView that has a bug?
Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Cheers

Hi XnTriq,

Thank you so much.
I have an ongoing support case with the camera manufacturer Axis so your JPEGsnoop findings are of most valuable information.
The Ignore read errors option worked great; for now, thanks for the tip. Let me hope Axis soon can sort out the reason for this jpeg error.

Cheers.

One last thought, Morten: In case you have to find damaged JPEGs, the links provided in “Corrupted photos scanner” might be of interest to you. Lykke til!

Hi XnTriq,
Great tip, and thanks again for your excellent help on this matter. It really bugged me. With your findings and deep information I was able to provide Axis with enough analytic data which again had them do a updated firmware to my camera. Now with the new firmware the jpeg problem is gone and the camera is working perfectly.

Tusen takk :)

Cheers

Thanks for reporting back, Morten!
I had actually looked at the official firmware page, but I couldn't find any reference to a bug fix for the camera's JPEG output.
Anyhow — I'm glad to hear that it's not a hardware failure :-D

True, the firmware I got is not yet public as it was a special build just to fix my problem.
Axis has an excellent support. Just like this forum :)

Cheers
