Version 0.94 Windows 64bit bug of HEIC

Post by fch1993 »

It still uses 32bit HEIC decoder & encoder which the default install is 64bit.

I tried to uninstall the HEIF Image Extension.

And install the 32bit one from https://store.rg-adguard.net/ (use the Porductid 9pmmsr1cgpwg for search)

Microsoft.HEIFImageExtension_1.0.22742.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe.Appx

Which works with 64bit XnView MP 0.94. (But Microsoft photos doesn't work.)

But when I install the 64bit one:

Microsoft.HEIFImageExtension_1.0.22742.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.Appx

64bit XnView MP 0.94 doesn't work.

Hello, I use the 64bit version of XnViewMP 0.94 and load or save pictures in HEIC/HEIF format.
Everything is alright!

Maybe I did not understand your problem. Why do you use the appx files to install the HEVC plugin?
You can easily install the extension from the Microsoft Store.

XnViewMP needs the HEVC extension from Microsoft (!) and no other company.
I tested another HEVC extension and they do not work!

I installed it from the MS Store first but it won't work. I also tried to re-install it but still not work.

That's why I chose to install the appx to find out what's happened. (I check the appx info through dism++, It will install 64bit appx by default)

My System: Windows 10 x64 Enterprise 1909 Simplified Chinese (10863.476)

Other viewers like "ACDSee Ultimate 2020" works fine.

Also, I can't convert the image to HEIC format, It's output will be 0 bytes.

Hello,

the XnviewMP 0.94 works only with the HEVC Video Extensions (first link from your post).
On my PC system I also installed this one (HEIF picture extension from Microsoft):
https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/p/heif- ... verviewtab

Please deinstall the HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer, if it is already installed.
This one maybe makes problems and prevent saving HEIF/HEIC files!

Please try it.

Thanks for the answer.

I've bought the HEVC Video Extensions and did some tests.

When both HEVC Video Extensions installed, XnViewMP didn't work fine.
Even deinstall any HEVC Video Extensions won't work.
But after I deinstall both and reinstall only one of them it works fine.

(Microsoft photos Always works fine.)

I tried another account that not paid HEVC Video Extensions with only free "HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer". It still works fine.

Seems others can using it without pay the money.

Great news.

I also use Paint.Net and it has the same problem with the HEVC extension.
It has a HEIF/HEIC load and save function, too.

Thank you for your experience with XnViewMP and the HEVC extensions
and detailed informations to solve the problem. Maybe others
have the same problem, too.

Does MP support Canon's HEIF file format? I'm pondering about Canon cameras https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/news ... heif-files It be useless to get future canon cameras if it is not a common file format.
