XnConvert convert to 8 bit without notifying

I had to rotate 11000 images, which were tiff 16bit grayscale.
XnConvert rotated them apparently successfully.
After a lot of work done on them afterwards, I discovered that XnConvert converted all my images to 8bit, making me waste a lot of time.
XnConvert does it without notification.
This a very bad software design.
